I also got that issue

Checked it again and it won’t recognize castling to either direction

Board editor currently assumes no castling rights.

We will change it so it assumes castling rights when in the right position

Just wanted to share a picture of what I’m experiencing in the board editor. Castling works in game.

Yes I have experienced that and it is know own bug that is hopefully being addressed. I had to work around by castling then pressing play again taking my opponents move and then pressing play again.

This is expected behavior as it is written now - we will fix this in a future update to assume castling rights and/or give the user explicit controls over castling rights.

I just tried to castle in a game against a bot and am facing the issue there as well, is this an issue that will happen when playing on a chess.com game as well?

Hi.

It’s not happening when you play on chess.com/lichess.

Best

The only issue that should come up with castling in regular play is

  1. if the white king has issues
  2. if the king move is not completed before the rook move, then you may need to repeat the rook move (let go and start over)

If it is a bad king, you can confirm with the board editor. The king should recognize 100% when placed in any square. If not, we need to replace the king

Same issue here. I got the board today and was extremely excited, but during the first game with the ChessUp bot, I noticed I couldn’t castle properly. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but I’ve tried several times, and the result was the same. At some point, the board thinks I just moved the rook and skips to the opponent’s turn.

I did the test by moving the white king around the board and clearly, there are some issues with recognizing the piece. Sometimes I put it several times on the board and it’s still not recognized. Here are some videos showing it ChessUp videos - Google Drive .

As castling is such a basic move, this issue renders the board useless. Such disappointment :frowning:

EDIT.

Of course the board is connected to the internet and updated to the latest software.

Useless? It just doesn’t work in the board editor.

If you plays against ChessUp bots, against a friend, or online (chess.com or lichess) it works.

Very soon they will update the board editor, so no need to worry.

Like I wrote, because of that issue I can’t castle in the game, and playing chess without castling just doesn’t make sense, so yeah, it’s pretty useless right now.

I’ve contacted the support about it, we’ll see what’s the next step is.

You have a bad white king - it is not the board. If you email info@bryghtlabs.com we can get you a new white king on the way

Ok, I’m waiting for the response from the support then. Thanks for replying so fast.

Castling works everywhere except in the board editor, which assumes no castling rights at the moment (they will update this in an update of the board editor). So, with a good white king, you should be able to play and castle in ChessCom, with bots or in two-player games.

Ok, it’s been around 24 hours since my email to the support and I just got the confirmation, that I will get a new King, along with order number.

I’m glad that even though having a faulty piece out of the box was rather a bitter pill to swallow, it seems the customer service is top notch. Can’t wait to get it and play more, this time without any issues.

Board editor assumes castling is available in 2.5.9.

It seems I got my hopes too high too early. They don’t currently have spare white kings in the EU shipment center, so they can’t send me one. In the best-case scenario, they will arrive on the 11th of February, so maybe I will get mine in a week or even longer. That’s a bummer and I don’t know I wasn’t informed about it right away, but had to ask why the shipment was delayed. So far still can’t play properly - tried to do it today, my opponent castled and I lost 2 minutes from a 10 minute game, trying to make the board recognize the move and the king.
