Hi - welcome to the forum! @ software updates - it automatically detects the update is ready, notifies you when you start it up - and updates. Takes about 1 minute @ Lessons - lessons are in the app (as an audio source). This is not fully released. It has been in the works for years and is about to launch. We have a beta on iOS but it only works with ChessUp 1. Full android and iOS release and ChessUp 2 support is in one of these upcoming updates. @ Checkers - 1.1.0 will have checkers - it should be a couple of weeks. ---

When there are updates for the board you will see a prompt to update. You can start it on the board itself. So the updates are via wifi on the board, no need for an app.
