ChessUp 2 - Game Broadcasting - Seeking Feedback

Ah yes, now I remember. I have also corresponded a lot with the WhitePawn developer and it was supported, but ChessUp stopped supporting the integration

No that is not true at all. We know Khadim quite well. Our API never changed. ChessUp is more work to integrate because it is a chess computer.

Most of the other products actually have zero functionality when they are separated from a phone. They only relay the piece scan and that is all they do. So the interface to them is really really simple.

ChessUp can play chess, sense touching of pieces, and do so much more. It is more work to integrate.

Khadim (who is a full time student) opted to work on other things.

Chess for Android and Chess Connect both have maintained their integrations.

Thanks for the clarification @Jeff, cool to have your explanation as well. I was trying to understand why he couldn’t integrate your board and his explanation didn’t convince me fully since as you said, chess connect is working with CU2 so I raised the point to him that the API should permit the integration and that’s where he started telling me that since it doesn’t behave the same way, it was harder for him to integrate. I’m glad I have the full picture now

These 3rd party guys are mostly doing the work as side projects for fun.

We don’t pressure any of them to support our board. We just provide the documentation and help answer any implementation questions.

But they are doing this stuff usually for free and with nights and weekends - so anything they put out people should really appreciate.

Khadim is an amazing developer (as are Jƶrn w/ ChessConnect and Aart with Chess for Android). And what he has done with White Pawn as a project is impressive.

Fully agree with you @Jeff, really good work done by Khadim and the guys at chessconnect and chess for android, those side project are very cool

Absolutely would use this feature for streaming as well as YouTube content- usually recording long form games and analysis.

Thanks for the clarification. I have communicated a lot with Khadim through the last few years and he has even implemented many features I’ve recommended to him, mostly regarding other eboards. I must have misunderstood him then about ChessUp. He has been very busy with his studies, as you point out and that’s why the updates are not as frequent, but what he’s already achieved is really impressive.

Some of my friends Are interested in learning some chess skills, I will also try to grow a chess streaming channel so I can teach my limited skills. I think this will be a great way to incorporate my favorite chess tools into a channel.

Hi Jeff! :waving_hand:

I added this idea to the main Community Ideas & Improvements thread as well — suggesting a shareable live broadcast mode with optional PGN export.

I think this would be really useful for coaching sessions, club events, or online tournaments. Curious how far along this feature is and whether live PGN or web link support is being considered yet!

I don’t want to derail this thread but is it possible to stream on the Chessup 2 events / tournaments that happen on chess.com?

I would like to be able to see GM events on the chessup 2, display the evaluation bar and be able to make moves in order to analyse the situation and see the best moves.

Is it possible actually?

I’m not strong enough to stream my games but of course that’s a nice feature and it will be useful for many people.

Great question!
Right now it’s not possible to directly stream Chess.com or tournament events through the ChessUp 2 app itself — the integration isn’t built that way yet.

But your idea about showing GM events and having an evaluation bar on the board is really interesting. That’s actually very close to what the ā€œLive Game Broadcasting / Shareable Web Viewā€ feature I mentioned could evolve into — where the board mirrors moves from online sources or broadcasts them live.

I think combining both directions (watching and streaming) would make ChessUp much more dynamic — both for study and real tournaments.

Hopefully Jeff or Richard can comment if something like this is being explored for a future firmware or app update.

Thanks for clarifying, Criptix — it’s great to hear the feature’s already in early development!
