Chess.com coach bots available on chessup 2

I’m curious to know if coach bots are available on chessUp 2 I’m asking this because on the chess.com iphone App I don’t have them

Inside the app on Android they are not present. And I have a subscription on chess.com.

On the ChessUp 2 standalone they are!

Currently playing against coach is not available anymore on ChessUp2. They were removed from the bot list - therefore are not accessible through the board or app to play on the board.

We are looking into solutions here - coach bots seem to be very popular and we will see what options there are for implementation.

Does chess.com not want to work with ChessUp? It seems they constantly make changes that break the integration and give no warning beforehand.

I have wondered about this as well with the partnership etc I would assume Chessup would get pre-release versions to test against but maybe that’s not the case?

@Rob-stansbury - Why would you even think chessup might get ‘pre-release’ versions to test?

Well if they don’t, every time chess.com makes changes chessup2 will be in reaction mode trying to crush bugs, if they had access to prerelease versions they can regression test and fix stuff before it gets to production, this is a common practice in the industry especially when they are official sponsors and all of that etc.

With so few games played with chessup (compared to how most people play) I rather doubt chess.com is going to bend that far over like this. It would be nice of course, but it seems unimaginable to me.

Maybe not, but Chessup needs to do something or they will always being chasing chess.com changes and that certainly is not an ideal situation

For coach bots you can use Chessconnect:
Chessconnect - Chrome Web Store
Android app here:
Chessconnect - Apps on Google Play
“Play with coach” does work fine too

The Coach bots moved out of the ChessCom bots section and are an entire different feature on Chess.com. They are not accessed via the smart board API because it is not the same functionality/feature. Before 2025, the coach bots were just standard bots.

We have been working with Chess.com on potential solutions here - months ahead of the move. There is not a convenient/quick solution and it may be a while before access to coach bots is created.

We work in tight cooperation with Chess.com. But working with them is not at all equivalent to gating them from updating their primary products (chess.com site and app). Their site is going to update as they respond to their business. The coach update is a rare instance of loss of API access for one ultra specific feature.

If anything, Overall chess.com has been generously expanding API access for us. This is the only instance where a feature moved off API and it is solely because the expanded the feature complexity on their end.

When necessary we have implemented workarounds on our end and it may be necessary for the coach bots in the long run.
