AI Levels and Colour Codes

Further to a previous post that I did and following the links, i still don’t understand the AI levels and colours on the board.

If I select beginner level, then “blunder” is red and the others green. What does this mean and what other settings do i need to change to show the colours on the board (if any).

If i select “novice” then blunder is red and “mistake” is now blue, and all the others are green.

Nothing seems to happen when i select these playing against the board bot, plus i don’t understand them anyway. I thought that if i touched or picked up a piece then the appropriate lights would come on.

If i select “intermediate” then blunder is red, mistake blue and now inaccuracy is blue. I can select all the way up to “master” on the board and only “best” is green.

Any videos anywhere where someone actually explains this as i feel i am not utilising the features at all and it’s getting frustrating.

Assume I am totally thick and what might be obvious to you means nothing to me

I won’t even get started on the app settings for playing AI, but i might understand them once i get my head around the board bot settings.

Thanks

Happy to explain. I will write up more about this, but here is the best “quick guide”:

^that chart is a bit out of date (it is from 2021), but the ideas of the assistance levels are there.

The main intention is for users to progress through the levels as they gain experience:

1 = legal moves, learn the rules
2 = avoid blunders (really bad moves that lose a piece)
3 = learn to avoid mistakes (bad moves that compromise the position)
4 = learn to avoid inaccuracies (moves that can lead to long term disadvantage)
5 = learn great play with all excellent moves
6 = study the best moves (super human)

You do not need to set anything else. Just setup a game against a Ai level like level 7, set your assistance to level 2.

Then play.

As you play, red moves are learning moments. Just touch a piece and see which moves are blunders - and study why (usually it loses a piece).

Thank you, i think that and some info I’ve found on YouTube will help me get there.
