A need I have wanted is for all the lights on the board to be slightly on. Just enough light for the player to tell the square in a pitch black room. Otherwise, I can’t play in dimly lit room because I can’t see anything except the optional move lines
I also posted this idea right after I got it, but they said they aren‘t sure if it helps and no one asked before, so they don‘t do it for now
But I think it could be nice in darker environments.
I love my chessup2, and my 4 and 7 year old boys play on it a lot which is amazing. I use it mainly to play chess.com live games. However I keep missing when a game starts. I would love the board to flash a couple of times when the game starts so I don’t miss it. I’d prefer this to a buzzer, I like the silence of the board. I end up with aborted matches a lot as I didn’t realise they started. Please make it happen!!
You can select custom brightness settings. Is this what you were looking for?
See section for “Custom”.
We did a release onMarch 2nd that supports hiding the rating in Lichess. You must have the option “Show Player Ratings” turned off for your Lichess account. We will also add support for Zen Mode.
Hello. Sorry if this is already covered but I’m quite new. Is there any way the chessup2 could have a decent opening book? I’m playing the bot at 2000 but it plays very unorthodox moves such as e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 d4 exd4 Bd3 for white.
I’m aware there’s the option to set it to play certain openings but it’s a bit fiddly - for example when I type ‘Sicilian’, you can’t see the moves against each template. I worked out I could type ‘sicilian defense: classical’ - and that seemed to work, but even then if you started theory after 6.Bg5 it plays an unusual and non club player move very soon after.
Which app are you using? The opening play is meant to play through what you choose, then once that has been completed, continue on with moves that are stockfish, based off the level of AI opponent.
Hey. I’m using the ChessUp app on an iPhone 13. Is it an out of date version due to my phone being old? when I play against the ChessUp bot/AI from a starting position, the opening book seems to be okay, but when I set it start from a position of theory (via the app), it seems to be strange after that.
The chessup post-game analysis through the app is very buggy for me also. When i click on a symbol to see the best line, it usually can’t return to the moves played properly - it either leaves pieces behind on certain squares, or it just can’t play through the moves.
@TradingRooks
Sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing.
What version of the iOS ChessUp App do you currently have?
I wasn’t even aware you could play specific openings! How does one achieve this?
You need to connect the board to your app on your phone/tablet.
There you choose:
On the bottom off the screen you have advance settings:
There you can touch none to choose an opening to play, and with all variations toggled on or not. You can even set a favorite to put your openings on top:
Hey - on my iPhone it’s the 3.1.12 (1) version.
Thanks so much for this thorough response! Going to try this right now ![]()
thank you! the more you know!
Quiz at the end of lessons or puzzle mode sounds cool! ![]()
Would love an analysis mode. The current « set the board » isn’t really fitting into that. I imagine it like this :
- once you enter the analysis mode, the screen on the ChessUp shows the best lines (defaut : 3) as calculated by the engine, for the position that is currently set on the board.
- If I change the board, it simply recalculated for the new board.
- It needs a button to eventually access a small menu to set which color is to act and probably one to say if short/long castle is still possible, something like that.
- Square color integration for best moves, blunder etc as already done for ChessUp games is more than welcome here.
It’s a basic feature that one can find in any chess program and I think it would be great to analyze without a screen and ChessUp is a great solution for that.
I would like the ability to revert/take back moves in chess.com bot and coach matches to be added. Same function as in the chess.com app.
I’ve been doing a lot of puzzles lately, it would be cool if this workflow could be supported:
- use the app to take a picture of a puzzle from a book or on your computer screen etc
- The board then lights up the squares to tell you where to place the pieces. The squares are colour coded, so: W pawns green, B pawns yellow, W queen red etc. that way you can quickly set up a puzzle and move to the next one
- Board gives you feedback if you make the wrong move
- You can quickly (ideally in one or two taps) switch to analysis mode to test out a few ideas or play out the position with a bot
