Just tried the lessons.
Love it! Just went through game 1 Gukesh vs Ding.
Smooth. Worked perfectly once I updated the app too.
Easy to follow. Very instructional and to see the positions on the board is very satisfying. I like how the commentary pauses and waits for pieces to be placed properly before continuing.
I tried the pawn vs queen lesson, it was nice.
I only had a problem the first time I tried the lesson because I had all the pieces on the board. So after starting the lesson I was not able to set the 4 pieces, it would not start the lesson. So I had to restart the lesson completely without any pieces, and then just add them in the 4 lighted squares.
Finally, not sure how difficult would it be to implement, would it be possible to include a couple of drills after the lesson to try out what we learned?
For whatever reason I was expecting that
I had the feeling that the lesson was awesome but I wanted to try it in my own.
Will explore this feature further. But for now just wanted to say it’s an overall great work you guys! Thanks.
These are awesome! The lessons pushed to the old version of the app and did not work. But once the App Store made it available the lessons worked flawlessly.
I have the v1 board which makes practice more difficult. I assume the v2 board (as it has piece recognition) lets you just put the pieces on the board and press play against computer?
Someone mentioned wanting to do drills after the lesson. And while that would be handy to have built in, if they have the v2 can they just put the pieces where they like and press go?
Yes exactly. ChessUp 1 can load positions but has to be done through the app. ChessUp 2 the users just set up the pieces and play from there.
Any chance we will ever be able to use the app to send the position to the board just moving the pieces and not needing to create the FEN string?
Love the lessons. I went through all the Novice lessons and enjoyed them. There was a light issue with the knight at the end of the smothered mate lesson, but I didn’t record any details.
Great job; I can’t wait to share then with my grandson.
Must be doing something wrong. When the lesson loads, the app doesn’t show the entire board and is difficult setting up the pieces on the physical board. I tried King and Rook Checkmate, and only ranks 2-7 are visible. There are moments where the lit up squares don’t relate to what’s being said (4:39, 3:08 black king to move to b8 but d7:f7 are lit).
I’ve tried several others with similar results.
Edit: 3.0 app update did not come through yet. It’s working.
Try updating the app.
I really like the lessons! I wanted to report a bug though. I had the board plugged in then turned it on and the deflection and attraction lessons weren’t working quite right.
First lesson I did I had my first board crash. Had a square start flickering green then all lights went off and the board got stuck on what I think was the startup logo but without the loading bar.
" * Fixed OTB+AI assistance after playing a board-editor game."
Does this mean setting up a position and playing from that?
Unfortunately it is sometimes impossible to play when it is plugged in.
For me personally I cannot use lessons because I do not always have access to the app. If in the future you could do something onboard with scrolling text or the lights that would be great.
Love it! I just did the Intermediate lesson on Distraction. Lots of fun and.
a cool board interface.
One error I spotted: when you select Intermediate from the menu, on the next screen Tactics is misspelled (the C is dropped).
Just thinking. If you have acces to a pc with BLE and use an Android emulator so you can install the app on that, would that work? Haven’t done that…
Maybe a solution for you if that works?
The lessons are awesome - can’t wait to start going through them with my daughter as its a great way for kids (and me) to learn
Thank you for the update.
Is it possible for the video to auto-play once the pieces have been set up correctly? Frustrating to make a single move as instructed and then have to return to my phone to press play each time.
The lessons freezes up for me and it doesn’t recognize that I’ve moved. Have to press play on my iOS device. I have a film too but can’t put it here. Boards works fine in normal play.
Hi @DavidS it sounds like you might have a noisy power supply. This can cause issues with the sensing system. You might try a different outlet or a different charger. Some buildings/houses just have noisier power.
