I just got my ChessUp yesterday. My overall impression is Very Good, after just 1 day of usage. First, before getting into details, a little about my background: (1) I seem to collect Chess eBoards, mainly Chessnut products (the Air and the Pro), (2) I use Android, no Apple products here, (3) I am biased… I like American designed products.
And I mainly use Chess dot com. But I am registered on both Lichess and Chess dot com.
So here are my 1st thoughts. (1) Initial setup is finicky, I had to calibrate the board several times and it was not stable until it sat overnight (hint: I chose this product because it looked simple/easy to setup/use, the competition is much more polished out of the box, even though Chessnut products are about the same age in the market). (2) the firmware update process is too complicated, it should NOT offer to update again, immediately after it just finished a successful update! Unless there were actually multiple updates that needed to be applied. (3) the support for Chess dot com is currently shown as “BETA”, but it worked very smoothly for me… I like to play the bots on Chess dot com and the ChessUp app, in “BETA”, is better and easier to use than the similar app from the competition. Kudos to the programming staff at ChessUp!! Still a lot here for me to explore in the app, but so far, I find it sparse, but excellent. The programmers should continue to follow the KISS principle (I am a retired programmer)!
Finally, I end where I started this message. I purchased this product rather than the more expensive EVO model from the competition, because this product looked to be easy to setup and use… and it was a USA based design team, and it checked all my boxes. After the 1st day of use, I believe that it has met all my expectations. A quality product that is very successfully implemented. I look forward to many years of using this and other ChessUp products.
