Not sure if this has ever been suggested. More of a “fun factor idea”
In “Night mode” all active pieces will be lit up. When a player touches a piece to move only legal moves are shown for the piece, and all other active pieces lights turn off. Once the move is made, all remaining piece lights turn back on.
And maybe there is a better way of doing it. Seemed like a fun thing to do at night. or maybe even outdoors on a nice summer night.
The idea of night mode is that the legal moves of individual pieces aren’t displayed.
This means that only the starting square lights up, and the destination square flashes for confirmation—and that’s how it should be.
Not sure if night mode implies playing in darker settings but I did that and oftentimes have more difficulty recognizing pieces as they are backlit from bottom. I actually need to dial up ambient light whenever it is the case.
