i have a chessup2 board, and my friend on chess.com has one as well. we were sitting in the same building right next to each other and were on the latest firmware (3.2) but unable to receive a chess.com invite through the board. is this expected until v4 comes out, or with the latest updates should the invite challenge have come through to the board? he is on an iphone and when i triggered the invites it did come through to his phone via the chess.com app, but it seemed like it would only trigger the game through his phone at that point. in my case, with an android, when he sent me invites from the chessup2 board i never got the notification at all nor saw it in the chess.com app. can someone please shed some light on this? is this a v4 coming soon thing or is there something else going on here? just to recap we were both logged in on the chessup2 boards, on the same wifi network, sitting right next to each other and are hoping to see the invites appear on the board. thanks!
So yes this should work today.
Steps (I know you have already done some of these):
- Get chess.com set up on both of your boards
- Friend each other (you can do that through the chess.com app or web page)
- Start up your ChessUp 2s, let them connect to WiFi
- One person select “Chess.com” and wait on the main Chess.com screen
- Other person select “Chess.com” → “Play a Friend” → Select your friend’s username → set up the game…
The challenge should then appear on person from #4 and can accept and start:
One key thing - do not use our app, nor the Chess.com app, beyond setting up the Chess.com credentials on your boards. The best experience for the direct challenge will be through the board direct to WiFi.
You can also receive challenges from friends not on the board and them on the chess.com app - same process as above for receiving.
When this icon is on screen, you are ready to receive challenges. This is just 1 click into the Chess.com menu:
thanks for confirming jeff. we will try again and report back if this doesnt work. i thought i was in that menu and had a feeling i needed to be inside the chess.com screen for work but wondered if there was something else maybe set up with our chess.com accounts that might prevent the challenges from appearing. we will try again this week/sunday and report back if there is a reason we cant get it to work. keep up the great work. love this board!
thanks we got this working properly. i think i needed to go into my settings too though and modify the filters for the elo restrictions as we have a pretty big variation in rating. i thought friends would be an exception to the rule, but if anyone reads this and has issues, i recommend setting the filters in your challenge menu to be infinite to avoid any issues there.
Oh good to know - thanks for sharing that tip back
