Playing either bots or 2 players directly on the board I’ve had games where a takeback works perfectly fine and then others when it refuses to work.
Is there a trick to doing it or can someone confirm what the proper behaviour is meant to be?

There’s a page in the knowledge base about take backs. I haven’t tried a take back myself (didn’t know the feature was there!) but it sounds like if the bot moves, a take back won’t work anymore…?
Which would make it impossible to do against bots since they move instantly?
Either way, definitely had it not work with 2 player before the other person hasn’t even touched a piece.
Fact checking myself here: I played a game against a built-in bot and take backs were working for me flawlessly, as long as I didn’t move the bot piece first. So I think they work as described in the article but I didn’t try it in the 2 player OTB game I played with my wife after.
Current take back implementation:
If you find a situation where it does not allow a takeback and it should have, please share any details here and we will check it out
It might be when we were trying timed and untimed games so that makes sense then.
Are takebacks coming for timed 2 player games?
Will need to confirm with bots again next time though.
Maybe - it is product debate on whether take back belong in timed games.
*We will certainly add a time format (maybe unlimited time) where there are take backs with 2 players.
