Everything worked fine til part way through the game (I’d guess it was somewhere between move 30 and 40, but I don’t remember exactly). From then on the game proceeded as follows:
When my opponent (as white) made a move, it appeared in the app, the board lit up, and I moved the opponent’s piece as required and the board accepted the move - all normal.
When I (as black) made a move, the board accepted the move and behaved as if I’d submitted it - but the app’s web-view didn’t update and it didn’t send the move to chess.com, and my timer was still running.
I then had make my move again via the touchscreen - carefully so that I didn’t end up sending the wrong move. Then my move would be submitted, and these steps would repeat for each move of the rest of the game.
Fortunately I managed not to send a wrong move at any point, so I’m not sure what would have happened if I had!
I’m not sure if this is related to the other threads about desyncs - they seem to be about people getting disconnected completely from chess.com, whereas in this case my phone was connected fine the whole time and the desync was between the phone and the board - so figured it was best to start a separate thread.
This was on board firmware 2.6.0. It’s the fourth game I’ve played so far on ChessUp, the first three were fine.
Any reason you are using the app and not just playing Chess.com directly through the ChessUp 2?
The desync issues are largely resolved. The one thing we have left to add is a method for people to observe their games without disconnecting the game (*we warn you if you force disconnect now). But some people still wish to watch it online as well - we are working on that.
Otherwise, online play is best done directly on the device.
When I first turned on the board and pressed Chess.com, it told me I had to use the app to connect my Chess.com account.
So I got the app, created a ChessUp account, linked it to my Chess.com account, and then played through there. It worked, so I forgot all about trying to play without the app, and didn’t think any more of it.
But now that you’ve asked, I just tried pressing Chess.com on the board again, but it just has the same message as before, telling me to use the app to connect my account, so I’m not sure what more it wants me to do before it’s linked properly.
Edit: Never mind, I was being silly - I hadn’t actually tried pressing the Chess.com button on the board while my phone was connected to it with Bluetooth… now that I’ve done that, it’s working. I’ll try a game directly from the board and see how it goes
