3.0.0 (Lessons) Release Is Live - Please Share Feedback

Hi @BraddersVee this is what is supposed to happen. It should auto-play when you have the position correct. Are you on iOS or Android? Does this happen for every lesson? Do you have the phone next to the side of the board with the ChessUp logo?

Hi,
Thank you very much for the lessons - you really did a great job.
I’ve now gone through everything up to Novice and I haven’t encountered any errors yet.
What I immediately noticed positively was that the Knights are looking in the “right” direction (to the left side).:+1:

This is really nicely done! Did some ‘normal’ lessons and the game 3 review at masters. Didn’t had any problems and I like the way the lessons are build.
Good job guys!

Love the lessons and are really enjoying them!

So far they are flawless and I am extremely impressed. :+1:

Quick question, how frequent will new lessons be published to the app?

This is a rare bug that we are aware of (and know the cause, just working on the solution). Just want to check, did the screen also ask you to promote a pawn?

Most recent firmware and app are necessary (just to make sure).

Being unplugged will also help. The charger brings too much noise sometimes.

But regardless, we are still rolling out fixes for this and a couple of more bugs.

Best method currently is to use nextchessmove:

Edit board, copy FEN, paste into our app.

We may build in a board editor to the app too.

Yes it asked about promoting a pawn when I first setup the lesson.

Fully up to date and wasn’t plugged in (but fully charged).

Glad to hear it’s already a known bug.

For those who have the game freezing up, might it be that you are moving ahead of the app? If you don’t wait until the instructor says to move the piece AND SEE THE DESTINATION SQAURE BLINK, it messes up the lesson. Sometimes it can be fixed by putting the piece back and moving again. Sometimes not. But if you take it slow and wait for the signals, it should be fine.

Hi. It is on Android. I have tries for multiple lessons and my phone has always been next to the board, although probably not directly next to the ChessUp logo at all times

Where would you even be moving a piece to if the square hasn’t lit up yet?

Once it crashes nothing works, you can’t just move the piece back. Jeff said it’s a known bug, so doesn’t sound like user error.

@BraddersVee Can you confirm you have firmware version 3.0.0?

Yep. 3.0.0. Updated today. Will continue testing but already tried on multiple lessons.

Sometimes people arrive a bit early, but actually the board and app support this.

That should not be the issue

@Jeff
I just had exactly the same error with the green flashing square and was also asked if I wanted to promote a pawn.

The device was not connected and the battery was almost fully charged.
The firmware and app are also up to date

The pawn promotion bug is known - we will have a fix in the future. It unfortunately stops the lesson and often crashes the board.

This is one of the bugs we were in the middle of fixing but we released anyways and will update it with fix soon.

Another error occurred with Queen vs Rook, Pawn.
After a few moves, the lesson no longer continues automatically.
The play button must then be pressed after each move.
In addition, not all lessons that have already been completed are marked with the green check mark.

I tried this in the attraction lesson, it was just a few seconds before the voice announced the move, then the lesson crashed and I had to close and restart it.

Moved my queen to c7 a bit too quickly:

Hello Jeff, just updated to the 3.0.0 Lessons Release, and i have to say that you and your team done a fantastic job !!!
I can’t imagine the amount of work it took to develop this application, and made it so user friendly.

  • The ChessUp App connects to the board without any problem, and your board squares light up indicating that you need to place black and white pieces as per the lesson.
  • The teacher’s voice is perfect, clear, and well articulated.
  • Before each lesson, you’re requested to remove all the pieces from the board, and place the pieces on the board according the the new lesson.
  • I’ve gone through the Intermediate Tactics lessons, and they are well made, with great explanations.
Looking forward to go through the EndGames lessons !
I’m very happy with my purchase, and especially with your excellent support .
Keep on your great work !

Overall, the lessons are great. My wife and I did a few last night and had a lot of fun! Just wanted to share some feedback with the team for the sake of improvement:

Similar to some comments above, we also had a few times when we moved a bit early, and it pretty much broke the lesson. Sometimes it would work again after a position resets, but other times we ended up having to keep pressing the play button in the app to get the lesson to move forward even though all the pieces were in the correct spots.

Second, it seems a bit odd that in many lessons white is playing without a king. This could be confusing for novices, and it doesn’t feel like there is a great reason to not just add a king to the position.

Finally, there is also a small typo on each lesson in the app (see screenshot). “Requirments” should be “Requirements.”
