Change lessons language

Hi all!

Is there any planned release where we can follow the lessons in different languages? I’m following them with my son and i translate him to Spanish, but if would be nice if he can do the lessons without my help.

Thanks a lot!

Yes, very much +1 on this.

Would it be possible to translate text to speech with AI, and localize it?

My sons are learning Chess (4 & 5 years old now so a bit of time still), but pausing and translating isnt working super fluent.

I would like to offer my help and do the translation for the Dutch market if interested (for free obviously). At least the basic lessons.

Hello,

I asked same thing to translate in French…

The answer was…. No plan yet, even with AI help…

So I can’t use lessons for chess up…. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Maybe Jeff will says another words now !

We have been looking into Ai translation for this task and it gets very close to correct. It sometimes misses on chess context. It still needs a human touch to get to 100%.

When we translate text in the UI we get volunteers to help from the forum. I could see us doing that for lessons as well. This is not something we are starting on immediately - would be a 2026 project.

@JustinF manages the lesson software - if we get volunteers for each language that is a great start.

The Dutch translation of the text is good. Only the coordinates for placing the pawns are in English. But this is really well done!

Hi!

Some Spanish feedback:

  • It talks about “casillas claras” (light squares) and “Casillas oscuras” (dark squares), it should be “Casillas blancas” (white squares) and “casillas negras” (black squares).
  • “Alfiles de distinto color” (bishop of different color) i think it’s more appropriate to use “alfiles opuestos” (opposite bishops) or also can be used “alfiles de colores opuestos” (opposite-colored bishops)
  • Some coordinates are not translated, but you already noted that

Thanks a lot for your effort! I’ll try to help as much as i can for Spanish

Br, Alberto

I don’t think that this will be a feature, not soon. Chessup team has a lot of other wanted features and things to solve and develop so maybe they will put it in the future features list but not likely.

Usually things go to the back of the line - but for this - Ai does the work. So we may be able to do this in relatively very little time.

It’s very good :+1:t4: I think there was only an issue when you were setting some pawns. Only c1 was said in Spanish. All the other coordinates were in English and you may have already realized (as I heard you laughing :joy:).

Did you also tried with french? Would be really happy to give feedback on french as well

Yes! Please check it out and let us know:

It’s ok in terms of translation but why does the voice have a Canadian accent? This is kind of funny and I guess Canadians will love it, however on Europe or doesn’t feel natural

The dutch is awesome! It would be very good if this can be released. All the kids can play then. As said, the coördinates are English / messed up a bit but together with the lights thats no problem!

Awesome!

It could be an Armenian-American accent - the Ai adopts the voice of the original content.
