Connecting to Lucas Chess or other Programs?

Will it be possible to use the board with other programs, like Lucas Chess? I like that program, as it provides a lot of features and currently I use it with my Chessnut boards. Would be great to be able to use it with the Chessup 2, as this could also allow to use the best engine moves to be shown in differnt colors, when using the training tools of Lucas Chess.

Nothing directly from us yet, but https://chessconnect.de/ and some 3rd party tools do work with ChessUp.

I am not sure if anyone has integrated Lucas Chess yet.

OK, thanks for the reply.

I believe that most of the chess GUIs, including Lucas Chess, Fritz/Chessbase and so on support only the DGT boards since they have been around for a very long time and are used in official tournaments.

The problem is the DGT boards use a proprietary driver so even if Bryght Labs would allocate the resources to build a compatible driver, they would still need permission from DGT, which is unlikely since DGT is also selling e-boards, or risk being sued. The other option, which Chessnut has chosen, is to rely on the driver created by Graham O’Neill, but I personally dislike the idea of a for-profit company relying on the work of a developer that’s simply sharing a driver out of the goodness of his heart.

Depending on your needs, I’ve found BearChess to quite good and it connects to the board via your computer’s Bluetooth, which makes more sense than some custom DGT driver.

No, they support other boards too. Lucas Chess, which I like a lot, supports my Chessnut boards and it also supports the brand new polish iChessOne board, which is around for only a few month now. There is a guy from NZ who made the drivers for all those boards.
It is not a must for me, because I can use my Chessnut boards, when I want to play with Lucas Chess, but would be a nice have, especially for guys whoonly have the Chessup board. I have to try out Bearchess though. Never heard of that before. Thanks for pointing me to it.

Just downloaded and installed it. Looks nice. Will have to dive a bit deeper, but first impression of Bearchess is good. And it works very well with the Chessup board. Many thanks for the hint.

Yeah there is nothing proprietary about DGT boards.

Most of these independent projects have asked for our API information, some have implemented ChessUp, some have not.

Most smart boards actually do not resolve game play on the board (they are not chess computers). They actually are quite simple and just relay the scan of the board to other software. So the tool developers are used to working with receiving board scans and resolving moves themselves.

ChessUp is an actual chess computer (and can be played completely disconnected). So it does all the move processing. Plus it also uses two sensor technologies, where as the other boards do just occupancy. So ChessUp is a lot more complicated to interface with - because it is a more capable product. Move resolving is done on board.

Some 3rd party tools have gone through the effort (Chess Connect did). Some are still working on it.

Has someone already tried chessconnect with ChessUp 2 on android? With lichess.org, I can connect to the board but when starting a game on the web site, any move made on the board is not catched (squares are purple when touching a piece, as if no game was started). With chess.com, I just don’t get the connect button :frowning:

Chessconnect works for me on every device and with chess.com and lichess. On android phones you have to use something like Kiwi browser because it supports extensions. Other browsers don’t.
I sometimes have those purple fields but then I just reconnect it and it works again.

Kiwi browser is the only option. I finally succeeded to play one game on lichess.org after several tries but only one.

I would jailbreak it and use chrome
