The top post on r/chess right now is about an account permabanned from Lichess for using an eboard because it doesn’t always use official api. Can the same happen with Chessup?
I wouldn’t mind only being able to use chesscom but I would prefer knowing that Lichess accounts (and chesscom accounts) are 100 percent safe with Chessup2
edit to add: The answer given in the thread you’ve linked to doesn’t answer the question I’ve asked.
I’m not asking if it uses the api. I’m asking if it only uses the api.
For example chessup obviously uses official api for chesscom and Jeff has said that some options on chesscom need to be done outside of the official chessup-to-chesscom api. I don’t care how it connects to Lichess as long as it can’t cause the same thing that happened in that Reddit post.
Based on that Reddit post, it’s a reasonable worry to have about all eboards.
No chance of any ban from ChessUp use. We use all the official APIs (for lichess and chess.com) and for Chess.com are the only officially supported board.
Might be nice to have a forum post, article or similar that speaks to the safety of use on the chesscom site. Just thinking in terms of easing people’s minds when deciding to purchase. Just an idea that came to mind
Yes that answers what I was asking. This is very reassuring thankyou.
Sorry if what I was asking wasn’t clear at first. I already knew Chessup uses official Lichess api’s, but so does the other company. The thing that caused problems for the people in that Reddit thread is they didn’t only use official api’s and sometimes used their hacky workarounds.
FWIW, I bought my Chessup 2 just before Christmas last year. I also have a Millennium Supreme 55 that I have owned longer. Almost every game I have played on chess.com over the last year has been on one of these two boards. With Chessup 2 I connect directly through the board, and with Millennium I use the ChessConnect app. I have had no issues related to APIs on chess.com - both Chessup and ChessConnect work fine.
