Feature Road Map - Update Feb 27 2025

Hi Jeff! First, thanks for being so present on here, it means a lot that you’re so dedicated to giving your users a great experience. I love my ChessUp 2 and more than anything I’m super excited for its potential in the coming months and years as the firmware gets better and better.

With that in mind, I was wondering if you are able to share a more updated feature/firmware roadmap for the coming releases (something like the image you started the thread with)? TIA!

Lichess is about to release, then we are going to spend several weeks working on our bots.

After that family accounts and some other features. We will present a new roadmap once bots is released.

so could we expect it to come out today

I bet it’s about to release according to Jeff’s post. They should be working on it so that’s great news.

when should we expect lichess released

After lichess has been released, can we expect for a road map update?

We are working on the bots release currently and after that we will share a plan for next up features.

Bots will take a couple of months. Then it will likely be family accounts and then onto stuff like puzzles. But nothing is official yet.

The minor releases in between will mostly be dealing with bug fixes and minor improvements. Stuff like improved OTB game syncing, improved lesson stability.

I dont know if it was you, but somebody said that after the roadmap youre gonna publish the feature list and people can vote for a feature. Is that still coming?

I just did my first upgrade (to 4.0.0). Very nice job on the firmware update code. Necessary, extremely useful, but probably the scariest piece of code to write (because one oversight and you can brick systems). Looks like you have a lot on your plate. Great to see progress & future goals vs some companies that abandon a product once it starts selling. Good job, programmers!

Overall I love the board. Even the little details like using a rocker switch instead of a slide switch. (I always hated the slide switch on my old old Phantom board. First you had to feel for the switch and then figure out which way to slide it.)

Yes eventually we will be surveying users. There are some core things where we are setting the priority first (bots, family accounts, puzzles). After those are complete we will be seeking out what are remaining popular requests. That will weigh in to future releases.

^Sounds like you know firmware. Indeed that is a critical piece of code and we layer in several redundant fail safes.

Hi CHESSUPTEAM and Jeff,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for the latest updates. The possibility to play on LICHESS and the addition of the Polish language are fantastic improvements!

These updates actually motivated me to log in here and express my gratitude  Your work keeps making ChessUp 2 better and more enjoyable for us Lichess players.

Great job!

PS. I’m also keeping my fingers crossed that lesson translations into multiple languages will come soon — even if they are just run through an automatic translator!!! That would already help my kids and other a lot, since English is their only barrier to study.

What is the next plan?

bots is next

I assume sound notifications is not coming? I just got my board today and it’s the one thing I noticed was missing off the bat. I assume mostly it’s a hardware limitation (assuming no speaker in the board), but would there be a way to have it maybe ding on your phone when it’s your turn? No sound notifications was a real bummer to discover.

Correct - there is no sound device on the board.

Hi Jeff,

I am happily using the chessup 2 board for some time now especially for playing online training games.

As a semi-profefessional player I am looking for ways to integrate the board in my training routine. Is there a possibility to prioritize puzzles for the future roadmap ? I feel like this will broaden the audience, attract high-level players that are already solving puzzles on normal boards as their usual routine. I am atleast sure that it will occupy a big chunk of my time

I am really enjoying the simplicity of the board with online play and very happy with the product. Will be looking forward for the future updates!
