Feature Road Map - Update Feb 27 2025

It was off topic and just condescending another community member

Same here

Extremely confusing

The TOPIC is the ā€˜Featiure Road Map’ and someone…heck, people all the time are asking about features and when this or that is going to appear. I know my words were squarely in line with that.
And what on Earth was ā€˜condescending’? Please just give me the sentence or word that fits that characterization.

It is quite possible I have overreacted, sorry for the trouble, it just seemed off topic

Apology accepted. No worries.

That said, I wonder why my question asking for someone to explain what was ā€˜condescending’. Mod, please investigate.

So, everyone, relax and don’t make this bigger than it is.

The roadmap only serves as a rough overview of upcoming updates.

When an update is actually ready for release, @Jeff will inform us in a timely manner anyway.

I think it’s exactly right, and in my opinion, we don’t need an additional tool for it.

In the meantime, maybe we should just enjoy some exciting games on our Chessup2 board.

Thank you @pickup!

My apologies @Cornfed, that may have gotten out of control.

The two major features left are lichess and our built in bots. To address the timeline (and uncertainty of that timeline) with each:

(1) Lichess
Lichess should be straight forward for us to code. We are already familiar with the lichess API ChessUp 1 has had lichess for a long time via the ChessUp apps.

However, lichess also has to be extremely reliable as it is rated play.

So I expect 2~3 weeks to finish the UI and code, and then 2~? weeks to debug it. Beta users should have it in May. If all goes well, initial public release in 1 month total.

(2) Built in Bots

Built in bots is much easier to debug vs chess.com work. There is no external platform to interface with - which makes it much much less complex for debugging.

Still there is a lot of code to finish here - new Ai, dialogue triggers, tuning strength and style of play.

I expect to release the initial base set of bots 4~6 weeks after lichess, but work may continue on them for months as we continue to improve the experience and bot library.

~~

After those two features (lichess and bots), we will probably only provide a schedule for the next features one at a time. That way there is not compounding errors in a schedule. In fact, we may stop providing timelines all together and just share what will release next, but without any date given. That way we avoid all the complications that come with forecasting software development and debugging. We will also pause at times on new features and work on things like improving lesson stability, etc.

Is it already in beta? Sorry I could just turn on my board to verify but not at home right now

The save/resume is released to beta just.

@Izayahsimer
The board will notify you when it is released to everyone.

If you are using ClickUp, you can share lists publicly.

You could share a list to display a public roadmap, whether or not you include dates. An indication of the quarter we can expect things would be good enough imo.

That would not be a particularly onerous task, and I would definitely appreciate that.
