I’m particularly looking forward to the stronger builtin AI as I often just wanna play without using the phone app. But unfortunately, the builtin top level AI is not really strong enough.

January 2025 most likely. I am about halfway done with the new code.
That sounds awesome. Happy holidays!
I know you’ve got your hands full with Chessup2, but is the Chessup 1 firmware still on track to be released this month?
There is a new release coming out with the lessons release (this week).
After that, we should have the new Ai release - TBD exact release date, but I will share it soon.
Hi Jeff
On the Chessup 1 firmware release page it mentions only “support for upgraded lessons”. I take it the builtin AI improvement did not make it in?
Built in AI improvement on CU1 is going to correspond with release 6.0.0 on CU2:
The same built in chess engine runs on both. Taking a bit longer than hoped but is active and in progress on the work right now.
I also expect us to continue to work on improving it throughout 2025.
I totally appreciate that getting ChessUp 2 working well is the main priority for the team, but at the same time I feel like the few(?) CU1 users are a bit left out. I don’t really have any issues with the board except for 2 things that I have been waiting for for months.
That’s it really. It’s the only things I’m missing currently, but unfortunately it seems like any releases for CU1 are dependent on CU2. Obviously, I have no idea how things work behind the scene, but is there no possibility of giving a little love to the CU1 board - ie. the things I mentioned above, without waiting for various CU2 milestones to be completed?

Lars
Pulsing knight was a bug in the last release and newer release will restore the proper behavior.
The next release is the stronger Ai. That is a release for both platforms and is the current project. It is likely 6~8 weeks out.
The other update in the works is to address lesson instability (on both CU1 and CU2).
And there is an app update with CU1 to allow checkers to have forced captures.
That is pretty much all for planned updates to CU1. It does continue to benefit from any app updates (like weekly lesson updates).
Hi Jeff, I still enjoy my chessup1 !! I want to say how the lessons are working so well, thanks for the good work also still for the chessup1 users!! Best regards, Nico from the Netherlands
