Lichess: game aborted

My son tried to play rated games on Lichess, but it kept saying game was aborted. He tried few times till he got message that he must wait for 50 minutes to try again. Today he’d played with a friend on Lichess through the board everything worked fine.

Hi Nyole - I’d like to take a look at what happened to those games. Could you please PM me the username or lichess profile link?

Lichess requires players to make their first move within a certain amount of time, or else the game auto-aborts. When playing on Lichess.org or the Lichess apps, there’s a small text popup to encourage the player to move, however on ChessUp2 there is currently no indication.

I’ve brought this up to the Lichess team because there is also no indication of the pending auto-abort available for the board to display - they’re adding it now. This was an oversight on my part and I’m sorry that your son received a temporary Lichess ban.

ChessUp2 will require a firmware update before it will display this move time message. Until then, I would encourage all ChessUp2 Lichess players to make their first move within about 15 seconds, which is fast enough for all time formats ChessUp2 supports on Lichess. Games with friends do not have this first-move-time requirement.

Thank you for checking this out! We’ll wait for an update. So far I found out about chessconnect app as alternative.

@Nyole To clarify - it works perfectly fine. He just needs to make the opening move once the match is found. That is the same as it is on lichess web and app and everywhere.

All we are adding is a notification, but it is still the same - player has to move once a match is found.
