I am playing lichess- rated games 5/5min. I move immediately - but after the game the opponent timer is almost on max- I even lost on time. Impossible, that the opponent is so fast. There should be some glitch in the system. Please check it…
The opponent is playing via app or web - and they can pre-move.
The physical board will always have move time and will be at a disadvantage vs players using the web/app.
Unfortunately, there is no way to credit move time back from a physical board as you are playing the entire online player pool.
This happens on chess.com too if you have a fast opponent. It’s just the nature of playing online vs OTB.
Look at move 41, my opponent made a move in 0.6s. It’s impossible for me, having to move my pieces and “their” pieces to move that fast, even if I do it as fast as I can.
This is why I only play 15/10 with the board. That time control was what I was most excited about playing anyway with the board.
15/10 is best for me too.
15/10 for me too. I would like to have another time control with more time and increment but there is none on native chess.com. So I will stick with 15/10.
15 + 10 for me but will likely play 10+ 5 when added on the board
My board does not give me the option of playing lichess, can you explain please.
If you want to play LiChess games before it is supported on the ChessUp2 board, you can use the mobile app to authenticate and start games from there.
Hi Jeff,
Isn’t 5/5 lichess game through the ChessUp app (plus chessup2 board) a game with total 5minutes for each player (5+0 blitz game in lichess app)?- than something is wrong since his (at the start mine too) time went over 5minutes(I can see it through game analyses), or it is some kind of custom 5minutes and +5seconds for each move? Why is this 5+5second game and not the standard 5+0 Blitz game like on chess and lichess original app?!?
Thank you for your reply. David
@pol989 It’s 5mins for each player and 5 seconds for each move. It’s called an increment: rules - What is the "increment" in chess? - Chess Stack Exchange
It’s not “custom”, increments are very common. 1+1, 3+2, 5+3, 5+5, 10+5, 15+10 etc are common time controls. Chesscom and Lichess apps have those time controls too.
You think you can compete against a player using a mouse in blitz when you are playing with a board without an increment? That’s very unrealistic.
It is true that the default option in lichess is 5+0, but just think that if you are struggling with 5+5 then it will be just worse when you try 5+0.
Lichess does not allow boards to play their “blitz” formats, only rapid formats and longer.
Chess.com will let a board play any fast format.
Chess.com and Lichess each have a different definition of blitz and rapid. 5+5 is rapid per lichess, and thus the fastest we can offer (debate about if 10+0 or 5+5 is faster).
Chess.com 5+5 is considered blitz.

We match up with the default time formats on each platform. This allows for faster match making as there are more people in the player pool selecting those default times.
More offerings are coming soon for the Chess.com times.
