My chessup 1 became very expensive to use

I purchased the chessup when it came out and I found it very good for a 70 plusser to learn play chess, so I liked it.

I use my older ipad for the app and now I have to buy a new expensive ipad because it stops updating after ios V15.8.4. The older app is not usable anymore and in the app store only version 16 is available.

Is it not possible to make the older app available again, new ipad is to expensive for me.

Greetings from belgium,

Harry

Hi Harry - we keep support for old iOS versions as long as practical, but eventually Apple ceases support for their hardware and iOS versions. To keep all the features working and secure, we have to follow along with the minimum iOS version. For apple, there is not a great way to archive an old app for old hardware (android is a bit more flexible). I am sorry that your iPad was made end-of-life by Apple. I will ask the developers if there is any safe platform that archives old app releases.

I assume a smart phone is not a choice you want - as you specifically mention the iPad. But phones do work if you have one.

The other choices are a cheap android tablet - which is a bit different than an iPad of course, but works for ChessUp App.

And alternatively - ChessUp 2 - which does away with the app for most use cases.

What features of the ChessUp 1 do you use the most on the iPad?

You can use Chessconnect with iOS or a laptop and it works pretty well. Better on lichess than chess.com but works on both. This assumes you use it primarily to play on line and not to take advantage of the chessup lessons.
