Offline usability?

I went on a camping trip with my kids and found the offline Chess Up 2 didn’t work well without internet. Anyone else? And anyway to fix it?

Here was the basic experience (in case it matters, I’m a National Master): I turned move assist on for my kids and the engine (on master assist) recommended a move as its top choice that fell for mate in 2. It seemed to be reduced to an elo of about 700 Fide (maybe even lower as my daughters rated 500 would routinely correctly exclaim that a green move was bad). Didn’t have this issue at all with internet. Without it, I routinely had to tell my daughter to play the “red move” and that the “green move” obviously blundered a piece until we just decided to turn hints off until we had internet. Not sure if there’s a fix or if it should be an exclusively internet board. It did correctly show legal moves so we still enjoyed it, just had to forbid hints as they were inaccurate and distracting.

I’m noticing that on My games as well, saying green moves that are actually not very good

This is known issue - sorry it is late for release. The built in engine is getting replaced soon and the assistance will improve dramatically.

Hi Jeff, is there a

  1. List of all recent releases where we could track what has been released such as improvements and new features, and
  2. A roadmap with the timeline for the future

There have been at least a few features that were promised (some were promised “soon” a few weeks ago but seem haven’t been delivered yet), such as

  1. Clock in the OTB game
  2. OTB chess.com game, even if it’s unrated
  3. The one from this topic - improved assistance

I’m sure there’s more, and I’d like to be able to see both the roadmap for them and to check the fact if they’ve been released.

To answer part of your question. There is firmware release information here.

Yes, a roadmap would be nice. :+1:

Hi Im getting mine for christmas and I want to ask if the engine is only bad without internet or does it also make blunders with internet ?

There are a couple different bots/engine modes

  1. no internet - it plays as an Ai opponent 100~1200.
  2. internet - it plays the Chess.com bots (400 elo - 3000+ elo). Also it can access 3000+ Ai Assistance.

#1 is getting a major upgrade once we get past the Christmas rush and WiFi fixes.

It’s only without internet. With internet it’s great.

Thanks!
