It happened to me three times, that I had to power off the board while playing a game, either for lunch or an appointment, when I thought I had time to finish the game. Since I didn’t know how long I was going to be away from the board, I had to power-off the board and lose my games, I don’t leave the board charging when gone for an unknown period.
Would it be possible when playing against the ChessUp 2 board bots, either chess or checkers, to be able to turn the power off, and come back to where the game was when powering the board back on ?
@Jeff
Hello Jeff,
I posted this comment a month ago, and i don’t know if you saw it. So I’m re-posting it at your name, so you can see it.
Just let me know if it makes any sense, and if it can be done. It happened to me again last evening ; I had to close the board and lost my ongoing game.
With kind Regards,
Sam
In the meantime, if I’m in the middle of a game with an onboard bot and I turn off the board and keep the pieces where they are, I can then turn it back on later with the pieces still in place and choose “board editor” and continue against the bot there? Won’t be able to analyze the game though, right?
Dear Harv3ster,
Thanks for the idea of using the board editor after turning the board on, it’s certainly a good idea.
@Jeff to confirm, but if you do so, you will be loosing all the moves, from the beginning to when you turned your board off, and you will also play against the board editor bot, which is a weak bot.
With kind regards,
Sam
I’ve been doing that to salvage some bot games. It will play against AI level 11 (ELO 1100), which is second-to-best AI onboard currently available. So it is almost as good as you can get to salvage an onboard bot game, but can be a significant downgrade from Chess.com bots.
The need to salvage onboard bot games is less urgent than Chess.com bot games: onboard AI doesn’t shut down but Chess.com does. It will just go on as long as power (and charge) is on.
Will there be any way to deactivate Chess.com shutdowns? 15 minutes is often not enough when we have to spend time on parallel tasks such as eating and other chores. We can’t always afford to come back every 15 minutes and hit the ignore button. I just don’t know if that auto-shutdown is Chess.com server-side or just programmed into the board.
@Jeff
