Shipping Updates

I ordered ChessUp2 via Kickstarter. I saw in the email you sent that you plan to deliver on Thu, Dec 5, and Thu, Dec 19, for people who purchased ChessUp2 from the website. Does this mean that people who bought the ChessUp board will be delivered after those who purchased through Kickstarter ? I didn’t receive any email asking for my postal address so far

The Kickstarter orders go out immediately when we have stock. They are first priority. The dates do vary by country (for example Europe is later than USA because the freight arrives later).

We order way more than just the kickstarter amount in the first batch though. So once in stock, we are live selling. It all happens at the same time.

Also - I edited the title to “backers are delivered first”. I am not sure why there is any other impression out there.

One thing we also want backers to understand - is that you want the business to succeed. You want us to immediately sell thousands of chess boards as soon as you receive yours. This leads to us having resources for new features, resources for support. Kickstarter campaigns actually do not make much money at all because of the heavy discounting. These products are very expensive to develop (thousands upon thousands of engineering hours).

We love the kickstarter backers - as the campaigns do help get the product off the ground. Backers give us early feedback, insights on what is important, etc. Trust me - we are looking out for backers.

The backer survey goes out at the start of November - I will share more in an update later.

The reason we wait so long - is the later I collect your address the better.

Collecting addresses early = I have to email you again and confirm that you did not move. It just wastes a lot of energy to collect an address too early.

Actually, if it were practical, I would wait to collect them until the week before shipping. However, we are going to strike a balance and collect them in early November.

Hello Jeff, thank you very much for your thorough answer . The explanation about the address makes sense

Being a backer and in the US, am I right in thinking all those will ship this week?
I guess I’m just antsy and wondering how many of ours you expect to ship each day - I was one of the latter to get in on the kickstarter deal, so perhaps mine will ship late this week?

In the last update email 2 days ago it said the following. I think you are good!

North America Deliveries
USA - all will be shipped this week. Most packages go UPS. We use USPS for Alaska, Hawaii, military addresses, PO Boxes, and Puerto Rico.

I got a tracking number via email yesterday for UPS (though package hasn’t been picked up by UPS yet), so things are moving!!! SO excited!

Warehouses are working through the order backlog now (North America). Should all be on the way within a week.

So, some may not ship until next week.
Are they all leaving from that warehouse in Nevada or are there other warehouses they will ship from?

Most pre-orders go from Las Vegas. Some might leave early next week - most leave this week.

This stuff is not a perfect science and we are not even directly in the loop. The instructions go “here is the list, pack and ship as fast as you can while remaining accuracy and proper care for the product, thanks”.

I know people are anxious to get their board - but as of right now there is nothing to do other than wait. There is no ordered queue, there is no way to give a specific date of when order xyz will ship… not until the back log is cleared.

To give a specific reason why this happens - when clearing a 4,000+ order backlog - it is more efficient not to pick custom orders by order number. It is more efficient to say “what are all the orders with 1 chessup and 1 carry bag? Pack all those”. “now what are all the orders with 1 chessup? pack all those”. In essence a temporary assembly line is set up for each pick category.

If we actually specified order xyz this date, wxyz this date… we would still be shipping in January.

Instead it is green light - everyone hold your breath until Monday~Tuesday, then let’s see where we are.

^And they have the green light and are packing. That much I know.

Thanks. I specifically was wondering because I will be away from home Monday and the part of the following week (don’t know just what days yet)…hoping UPS doesn’t leave the items at my door where…porch pirates can get them or where there is no cover when it rains.

This is super exciting. Can’t wait to start using the board. Christmas is early this year!

I believe you can use the UPS website when you have a tracking number to to modify the delivery and have them hold it at your local UPS location, may be good to look into that as an option!

This stuff you can coordinate with UPS when you have the tracking number

I ordered mine on through PayPal off a Facebook or YouTube ad on November 20th. Wasn’t notified during purchase of the extended wait periods. Excited to get the product, but at this point I’m wondering what chance there os of receiving it before Christmas. The only reason I know anything at all about delays is that I stumbled upon this thread. No email of purchase verification or any contact whatsoever. Is there any link that would give me even an estimate of when to expect the product?

USA is shipping this week and a bit into next week

I received mine yesterday and just wanted to tell everyone how amazing this is. The packaging was so top notch, unboxing the whole thing was a delightful experience. The board itself is beautiful, it updated itself right out of the box, connected with chess.com without issue, and I was playing within minutes. Playing with the built in AI was super fun, and then playing a 15|10 game on chess.com was also amazing. The pieces feel nice in the hand. I am just blown away by the quality of this and I am so excited to get off work so I can play some more when I get home.

Just an incredible product you guys have put out.

I’m in Australia and mine arrived today. Love the looks of it and keen to get to learn to use it well. I ordered mine through the Kickstarter program. Thank you. Very happy.
