The thought just occurred to me - how do we know when our chess.com opponent under promotes?
It says it on the screen which piece the opponent has chosen.

Can you under promote w/o having extra pieces? For example, can you have three rooks? It seems not but I have not tried it.
with peice recognition I doubt it would be possible
Yes when you get the pawn on the other side there are 2 ways.
You put the piece you want instead of the pawn (spare or already caputured) and with the piece recognition your good to go.
You leave the pawn on the board and select the piece you want to promote on the screen and the pawn acts like that piece.
It’s also possible to buy a promotion pack to have extra pieces.
