Unexpected Draw offer in chess.com game

Hi everyone,

I was playing a game on Chess.com using my ChessUp electronic board, when all of a sudden the board itself offered a draw. I didn’t press anything to trigger it, and I wasn’t planning to offer a draw at that point.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Could it be a bug, or maybe a miscommunication between the board and the Chess.com interface?

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

If the opponent offers a draw, the board will pop up the draw offer for you to accept or decline.

Just to confirm - you were playing against an online player, not a bot - correct?

Exactly, again online human Player.

what I remeber is, that suddently a Informationen Pop Up Like “will you really offer a Draw?” but I did Not presss the offer Button.

After my try to cancel the offer BY pressing the Cross Button a very few Moments later the Game was a Draw… :frowning:

We might have a translation issue with the pop up - are you using the ChessUp 2 in English or is it in another language?

If you decline the draw, it should not have been a draw. *unless time ran out and one player had insufficient material.

I’m sorry this happened to your game. If you’d like to message me or post a chess.com game link, I’d like to look up the logs from your board for it to understand what happened.

A few times I’ve dropped a captured piece on the draw-button, causing that prompt, but I can’t say I’ve seen what you described before. As Jeff mentioned, there are a few other cases that can trigger a draw, like 3-fold repetition, insufficient material, or a stalemate - from the chess.com game link, on the right-hand side under info-tab, it should give the complete reason the game ended.

Hi

Thank you for investigateing my issue.

The link is

In fact, i am Not 100 percent Sure touching the Screen with captured pice but i dont think so and I want to Press the x Button for Not offering a Draw… maybe pressed the wrong Button but honestly dont think both accidents happened directly

Mihai,

I’ve reviewed the logs for that game. The logs confirm the game ending was drawn due to agreement. You were well ahead in the game when the draw-offer was sent from your ChessUp2. Shortly after the opponent accepted. I don’t have a good explanation for why the draw offer was sent.

On the page that confirms sending a draw, I double-checked that the X-buttons return to the game-screen without offering a draw, and only the checkmark-buttons on the confirmation page will offer a draw to the opponent. I did notice that the buttons are somewhat close together - I’m going to increase the gap between them to reduce the risk of a misclick.

A piece bouncing over the first button and a misclick could explain it but I agree that this must be a very rare event. Outside of that, I don’t have another explanation at this time. If it happens again, we’ll of course look into it further.
