Wifi cannot connect

Hi, ChessUp 2 user here.

I tried playing some chessup today only for the board not to connect to the wifi. When it tries to connect it says"Failed to connect to wifi". This is different than the other posts here, who are stuck on “testing connection”. Mine isn’t, just doesn’t connect.

I tried the following:

  • turned the board on and off multiple times
  • updated to 2.5. firmware
  • deleted the wifi and tried adding it again. After “testing connection” it still says “Failed to connect to wifi”
  • unpaired my phone from my wifi network to make sure that I have the correct password.

Worst part is, I decided to reset the board. Now I am stuck at the beginning screen because you cannot continue without internet and cannot play with the board turned on.

Any hints?

Can you you test by connecting your board to your phones hotspot? And make sure it’s 2.4ghz? IOS needs to be set to that I believe.

Thanks I will try that and report. I had no issues with the wifi network since receiving the board

Okay, I had success (partially).

It did connect to the hotspot to one of the phones at home. It did not connect to the hotspot of MY phone though. Both are running Android and the WiFis are both 2.4Ghz.

Still doesn’t connect to the home network (2.4Ghz)

I guess I will try restarting my router?

After ResetAll, choose the language, press next, then power-cycle the board - this should drop you to the main screen in your chosen language without WiFi set up. You can add WiFi through Settings->WiFi->AddNew, or by clicking ChessDotCom with no access points added.

The failure you’re seeing is specific to the connection between the board and the access point. Let us know if restarting the router doesn’t fix it.

Restarting the router did fix it. I don’t know why I didn’t come up with this idea before bothering everyone. I was fixated by the fact that my phone could reconnect without problems so I thought it must be in the board.

If it’s any good info, I did the power-cycle and reset all (before restarting the router) and that did not work - adding the network as new network kept giving me the error. It did connect to the hotspot.

Now it seems to work.

Thanks!

Hi, so I’ve a problem to connect to my WiFi. I’ve rebooted my Wifi, rebooted the board. Even reset my board. Question: How do I “power cycle” the board?

Hi,

So I thought I’d write another post regarding the wifi not connecting. So far, this is what I’ve tried:

  1. Reset all
  2. Chose “English”
  3. Pressed “select”
  4. Did a power-cycle (turning board off and on)
  5. Tried adding the same Wifi (2.4Ghz, unhidden SSID).
  6. Retried steps 1-5. Still doesn’t connect to my home-wifi. However, I can create a hotspot with my cellphone. However, I’d like the board to work with my home-wifi. Hence, restarting the router didn’t fix my issue.

Any ideas on how to solve this?..

Thank you,
Caroline

Are you using mesh boost wifi? That can screw things up sometimes.

Hi Caroline,
Please email us info@bryghtlabs.com and we can work with you to figure out the WiFi.

Thanks

^mesh is no longer a problem. The WiFi issues have been resolved now.

So it must be something else.

I figured as much, but the error may have been related to something like that.

Thank you for answering, Jeff. I’ve now sent an email about my issue. Looking forward to hearing from Support on how to continue.
