Starting a thread to organize discussion on board animations.
During recalibration, the cool expanding animation has two permanent lights. Not a functional issue but thought it may be unintentional. Just in case I submitted a bug report (868a7p0vp).
Hi
Calibration on the ChessUp 1 is the same. 2 lights burning permanent and the animation on the other squares.
I think this is assignd to White = blue and Black = green. Same colours that makes the animation on win for White (blue) and Black (green). On draw both colours are in the animation.

Makes sense, and I didn’t realize those were the win animation colors as well. Bet there’s a lot of code inherited from ChessUp 1. Thank you.
Indeed - this is ChessUp 1 code. The king spots are highlighted on purpose (we decided that was cool for the game ending animation some time a couple of years ago). ChessUp 1 did not have a screen, so we did a lot more with the lights.
With ChessUp 2 - calibration goes away anyways. With piece recognition, we have a truth source on occupied/unoccupied squares and the calibration is not necessary anymore.
