It would be nice if there was a menu settings option to move up/down etc? Now that lichess is active I’d like to move it up maybe right below chess.com and checkers is something I will never use so move it down to bottom of list or even have options to enable/disable/hide menu items?
We have considered this but will likely not implement it. To explain why:
Generally we avoid complicated settings where people can hide something accidentally (or forget), and then consider the unit broken because XYZ is missing. (This happens for real). It also makes support documentation and customer support harder.
I recognize it would be nice for the few of you that would enjoy re-ordering the items, but we keep the product as consistent as possible for everyone. And this is a conscious decision by us.
We lean toward consistent usability rather than customization. The user interface and user experience becomes overwhelming with too many settings choices so we try to keep it capable and complete but with simple and consistent UI.
It is not a no forever, but currently it is a no for now.
Understand, thanks
@Jeff
It’s understandable that you want to keep the settings as simple as possible.
Would it be possible for you to set Lichess to the first or second position in the menu?
Fair question. The modes are pretty much in order of popularity right now.
For example - right now 27 chess.com games going, 17 games vs built in Ai, 15 games 2 player, 31 sessions using stockfish (which includes board editor, 2 player), and only 2 lichess games.
So we have them sorted in order of use. Now there is an argument that the order impacts the use, but I don’t think that is too extreme of an effect.
A case could be made for board editor or checkers being out of place - which we will take a look at.
The more you have- The more that can go wrong .
.. Kiss Keep it simple Sam

Maybe the on-board app could remember the last menu page it was on. In that case, no re-ordering is required. If Lichess was the last service used, then next time the board would turn on that page.
If the user is still the same, then no confusion caused. And in most cases, the user is the same ![]()
That might be a compromise solution.
Personally, I would prefer fixed positions in the Start menu.
I’m aware that it won’t happen that way, but my personal ranking for the Start menu would be:
- Chess.com
- Lichess
- Play against internal bots
- Two Players
- Board Editor
- Settings
- Help
And if you could hide Checkers, the Start menu would be perfect for me. ![]()
