Feature Road Map (Outdated)

Started up my board today… asked me to update, I clicked yes, took like 2 min … and BOOM I was playing 5+5.

This really is a great experience so far. Great games, no hiccups for me. I had to come on and just say thank you for keeping the promises!

ps… I put my K and Q on the wrong squares and thanks to the piece recognition, it didn’t ruin the whole game lol

It was nice to see 5+5 available, lost first two games played but fun experience. Can’t wait to see 10+5 added but the board play has been good.

Love the board. I am interested in developing/adapting training content. How can I get more information about the API?

One thing I would really like to do is to play out positions from endgames or middlegames I messed up, on a real board. With the board editor + a strong engine, this would be a great experience

Exactly. This is quite standard among other e-boards and I was surprised that engine attached to board editor plays so wrong and it doesnt make sense to set up puzzle positions, train endgames etc.

“What is this? A center for ants?”

It is important to remember that ChessUp is run by people - I genuinely thinking they are trying their best - that’s good enough for me. I work a minimum wage job this board is a huge investment for me. I hope the most of the issues will be resolved soon. I am planning on making 2025 my year of chess.

ants?

I used the board editor to set up random chess 360 position and played around a little bit. Seems to work but only on board editor mode.

Update: castling doesn’t work properly but still fun to play around with it.

Love the transparency, dislike how far down the road lichess is, maybe making lichess playable with a phone for the time being would be a good way to delay lichess on board.

Your comment reminded me of this part in Zoolander. The “lessons” are through the app on your phone, so you assuming that they don’t even have sound was funny in this context…

Hi.

It is possible to play on lichess. Just go to the app and connect with lichess.

The only different is that you need your phone for the time. The rest works perfectly.

I understand it’s possible, it’s just not properly implemented. I’ve had to switch to playing on browser a few times because it didn’t properly update on the board/in the app.

Oh okay.

So far I had no problems.

Sure I am also looking forward for the planned implementation.

Reach out to us (info@bryghtlabs.com) - but it may be a while before we can reply in depth.

There is a bluetooth API and a document to explain how to use it. It is mainly used for ChessUp 1 though - and is limited to sending moves, positions.

There is also a lesson editor (where people can make lesson content). It is a closed platform, but please explain more in the email about your intentions and we can discuss.

The board editor being attached to a weak AI is not permanent. It will be attached to a number of choices (all levels of bots, 2 player, and stockfish full strength if you want to study).

The question is when (which release). Do you have such information to share?

5.0 release (February)

And this is a great news, Jeff! Thank you for quick response! Happy New Year!

I appreciate that you want to have a successful business model for ChessUp (2). And the initial development effort is of course also pretty heigh.
On the other hand, I‘ve seen many former kickstarter projects becoming pretty bricks, after the cloud services we’re shutdown and the app‘s not updated anymore. Especially in the STEM sector, there‘s so many toys abandoned by their creators.

I would really appreciate if you would add something like a web api or python api to interact with the board via wifi or bluetooth in the future. The same goes for the chess figures and how they are detected.
If you look back at a product like pebble - one of the first smartwatches - it thrived because of the community who wrote apps for it and made it to things that it wasn‘t supposed to do in the first place. Or if you look at something like flipper which has become a Swiss Army knife for nfc and subghz pentesting.

Even if it‘s clear that this is not your focus right now and things need to be implemented and fixed with a priority, just think about it for a future update - to futureproof your product and support the right to repair movement.
