Feature Road Map (Outdated)

I thought the same thing, but it already is! You can start a lichess game from the chessup app

Again, like I said before, it’s not properly implemented specifically for the Chessup 2.

Agreed!

Many times, ChessUp1 users were watching their own games in a browser using the same account, which caused move messages to go to the browser instead of the ChessUp application. Do you have a browser open at the same time?

No… And I’m not guessing in my response, Jeff has already stated that the app is built for chessup 1, not 2, although some things work for 2, it’s not built for it. As stated in my second reply here, it works for the most part, until it doesn’t. I’ve had 5 chess games where it just didn’t show the move and I had to take over on my phone in the lichess app.

Hi,

Sorry to ask this question here but it looks like the best place to do so. I’ve seen at the top that one feature which will be implemented is the possibility to save and export OTB games. For me it looks like it’s already the case, I can see that in the history tab and am able to copy the PGN and analyse it where I want. Is it just a fix for it not being fully consistent? I’ve seen that sometimes the game is saved and some other not. Running chessup app on Android FYI

Hi, I think that it is the 2 players OTB that is not working. OTB vs a bot is working.

One thing that I hope comes in an update is the option to join guest wi-if networks. (Wi-if networks without passwords)

Customer emailed with a bunch of detailed questions about the roadmap - I will answer here:

"
I’ve used color coded assistance with my ChessUp 2 board and I’ve noticed two issues:

1. A blue color is supposed to highlight mistakes. Though I touched every piece before moving it for the duration of the whole game to see what squares are highlighted, I’ve only seen a single blue square for a one piece for one move only. Everything else was either a red blunder or a green good move. I don’t think this is accurate at all, and such assistance wasn’t very helpful.
2. A board recognizes a blunder when there isn’t any. A good example is: if I have a move that can lead to Mate in 8 or I have another move that won’t lead to a mate but will give me +10 advantage, the second move will be a red blunder (which it is not). This creates an unpleasant situation when closer to the end of the game, if a side with assistance has a theoretical mate on a board (even if it’s mate in 11), any move that doesn’t lead to a mate will be highlighted in red.

From Jeff’s post on a forum I can see this roadmap. Is what I’ve just described going to be fixed in 4.0.0 or this “Assistance Improvements” is supposed to be something else?

This question brings me to another point. On the one hand, I’ve purchased a board realizing this is a fresh product and not all features might be implemented. On the other hand, I haven’t expected local games not to be saved, games against bots not to be saved, assistance not functioning properly etc. Though I do like the board, this has now become a waiting game until I can actually use it for what I’ve purchased it. I appreciate sharing a roadmap on the forum, but can you please either reply to this email, or create a thread on the forum and add more details to what the future releases are going to be?

Examples to add:

** 2.0.0 Additional chess.com time controls: what are they? Is that 10|5, or any other?*
** 3.0.0 Lessons: are they basic lessons for beginners, or something for intermediate/advanced players as well? If it’s a “how to checkmate with 2 rooks”, that doesn’t sound very compelling.*
** 3.0.0 OTB games saved/export: how will export work? Do we need an app for that or is it from the board?*
** 4.0.0 assistance improvements: what exactly is going to be improved? In what cases is that going to be usable - live assistance in games, playing vs built in bots, in board editor, other?*
** 5.0.0 board editor play flow: what exactly does it mean, what features will be there?*
** 6.0.0 built in bots: will it increase a bot level from Max 12 as of today to more? Will they have a chat dialogue?*

Since the board has been sold with lack of even basic features (clocks, games saved, etc), it’d be great to give people the information to know in more detail what will be coming next and when it’ll be.

Depends on which level of assistance you are on as to what is blue. At the higher levels there should be significant blue. Any bugs in assistance will be fixed in 4.0

This is by design and not a bug. We feel the tool is better to force the user to discover the forced mating lines. The user can recognize significant material advantage and a winning advantage independently

Local games are saved and exportable (through the app) - it was a bug that has since been fixed.

Games against our Ai is saved, but for Chess.com bot games to save, we are waiting on Chess.com. I do not have a date on the release yet.

Assistance has some bugs that will be fixed in 4.0.0

Everything you see under “more time formats” on Chess.com

What is compelling to one user and another user are completely different things. We start with the rules and how the pieces move and go up to titled player level. However, the focus is on basics and most lessons will be there.

WGM Tatev Abrahamyan does the advanced lessons.

If we built a board just for you - we would sell one… not a great business. So lessons are going to be for maximum coverage of users, most of which are beginners and intermediate. However, there will be more advanced lessons, but less of them.

The ChessUp app already can export OTB games. This feature is putting OTB games into Chess.com accounts / still in discussions with Chess.com and 3.0.0 is a target to get this in, but we are not in full control.

Mainly the assistance improvements are making sure the assistance is 100% accurate all the time and never dropped out (currently there is a bug where it drops or confuses a position - it is to do with network stuff, not the actual logic).

You can set up many game modes from the board editor - player vs player, player bot (various bots of various strengths)

This is an upgrade in strength but also our bots have dialogue, faces, and reactions to the game.

I don’t know under what category would this go. I have a suggestion for the analysis. Something similar to what chess.com/lichess does:

So currently, in assistance mode you see the color feedback for the move you make. But it would be interesting to be shown the best move as chess.com does with the green arrow.

This is different than the green colors you explore when you touch a piece, because in this way you see the absolute best suggestion from the engine.

I think it seems feasible but of course don’t know the complexity.

What is your view on this idea?

Is there going to be an analysis mode for the board?

This is different than the green colors you explore when you touch a piece, because in this way you see the absolute best suggestion from the engine.

With the assistance all the way up, isn’t that showing the absolute best suggestion already?
With assistance maxed out, isn’t nearly everything red and blue with only the very best moves being green?

Assistance level 6 produces one green square (sometimes more in the case of a tie). Currently you may have to hunt for it. I could see us adding a direct hint button to shortcut that process.

However, the hunting is one purpose. We view assistance as a min puzzle - meaning the user is not shown the answer until they first guess. Makes for better training.

But I know in some situations you just want to see the answer.

No, you can have several green moves.

Yeah, in general I feel that an analysis board is missing. Because with assistance in a 2v2 match you can only go back half a move and you cannot check for further variations as when you use the analysis board in chess.com.

It would also be interesting to see something like the “show moves” option in chess.com. Where the board shows your and your opponent’s best move

At the end we have chess.com so we can check always there but IMO this feature would be great. Thanks.

Feature request: please add a way to add hidden wifi networks. :crossed_fingers::pray:
For security I hide my network name (SSID). Before update 1.6.1 at least I could unhide it once, connect to my wifi, hide it again and it would remember it and keep connecting from then on. AFTER UPDATE 1.6.1 this no longer works! It keeps disconnecting every time I turn off the board and won’t reconnect since my wifi is hidden. :sob::sob: I DO NOT want to broadcast my wifi SSID to the world. I’m a software engineer who works in security, so trust me when I say you really don’t want to broadcast your SSID!
Please give us a way to enter the wifi connection manually instead of just scanning for it. Thank you!

OT but hiding your wifi name for security reasons is called security by obscurity. Hidden wifi networks are visible - just not on usual user interfaces. If you want a secure network, use WPA3. And if you work in security, you should know that security by obscurity is false securtiy.

Remember, if Queen on her own color doesn’t work for you, it is King Edward on the e square.

I can reproduce positions where it is mate in 1, and it suggests a move, that is not even close to finding the mate even though the mate in 1 is so obvious that even the Martin BOT on chess.com would find it. That is very disappointing and will hopefully be improved.

I know all that, but I still prefer to hide my network ID, my choice for my own reasons…you don’t know me or my home situation. My point, it used to work fine until update 1.6.1. and now it does not.
