Feedback + Questions: Multi-account, Game Import, Analysis, and Ethernet

Hello everyone,

First of all, congratulations on this chessboard — it’s truly a fantastic product, and the quality is definitely there. However, I have a few questions:

  1. When will multi-account support be activated?

This year? Before summer? It’s a bit of a problem when several people share the board… Ideally, when you turn on the ChessUp board, you should be able to choose between different pre-registered Chess.com accounts.

A simple example: I wanted to play a game tonight, but having to log out the existing Chess.com account, log in with mine, and then re-log the original one discouraged me after a long day of work… So I ended up playing on my phone instead.

  1. I was able to import a two-player game into the ChessUp app, but how do you import Chess.com games?

  2. Will the game analysis feature on the app be improved?

Ideally, it would be great to get closer to the type of post-game summaries you get on Chess.com.

  1. Is it possible to analyze games played on the board, whether they’re two-player games or online via Chess.com, directly on the ChessUp screen?

  2. I might be in the minority here, but I must say that an Ethernet port would have been ideal, as I try to limit wireless exposure for my kids as much as possible.

That’s all — thanks!

Glad you are enjoying the board!

This will be later this year. We have to finish lichess and our new bots but after that multiple accounts is a high priority.

You have to get the game from Chess.com. You can export a file called a .pgn file and analyze the game on other platforms as well.

What are the things on the app review that could be improved?

Are you asking about analyzing on the board, correct? That is not a feature yet but is a feature on our list for the future.

We are sticking with wireless operation for the device and no plans to allowed wired operation. If wired operation were implemented - it would be through the USB-C port.

Regarding USB-C port, why isn’t it possible to use it as a storage mount point for instance to retrieve games directly stored in the board? Would you consider doing something on that regard?

Yes, that’s it, we should be able to connect to the internet via the USB-C port and have the option to turn off the Wi-Fi on the chessboard.

Yes, so that we can analyze on the board’s screen like we would on the phone.

There should be a tutorial because I couldn’t manage to do it. Maybe it’s just not possible on iOS yet…

I feel like saying they should copy the reports and analysis like they have on chess.com. The analysis on ChessUp isn’t very intuitive, but maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to it…

And one last thing — maybe I missed it, but when playing against the ChessUp bots, they make their moves instantly. Would it be possible to have an option for them to (pretend to) think a bit before moving? I find it more enjoyable to play that way…

So, how do we import a game from chess.com to the ChessUp app? And will it ever be possible to connect to the internet via USB-C and disable Wi-Fi?

We do not have any plans for wired operation at this time. It would be 1 year+ out if we do it. We do continue to develop features for years so it is possible. But the wired play request is not common, so it is competing with a lot of other user feature requests.

What will come in just a couple of months is more bot options on the board. If not connected to WiFi, note the board is still in a bluetooth broadcast state (which is infrequent communication, but there is still wireless radio operation). We currently do not have a radio completely off mode. It is a wireless smart device and a lot of the experience is built around WiFi connectivity.

We also do not have a method to copy a Chess.com game into the ChessUp app. We currently only have a way to import 2 player and Ai games from the board. Chess.com already has an extensive self analysis tool so the game can be reviewed on their platform. If you do want to export it, you can access your Chess.com game in a format called PGN - with instructions below.

To export a game from chess.com website:

  1. Go to Play->Game History
  2. Choose a game and then click Share button:
  3. Choose PGN and click copy to clipboard

I believe that to analyze your games you have to be on your computer or cell phone . You cant analyze while on the chessup board . And if im wrong im surely to be corrected. Also i dont believe there’s an actual analysis per se if you play against the internal stockfish . Again , correct me if thats not true. I know that upgrades are always in the works, and thats a good thing . If i could wish for anything, it would be a really nice instructions manual, not necessarily in paper form but a nice series of videos where we could learn all there is to know . # .
