Help with wifi connection issue

Hi all.

Has anyone had an issue where the board can no longer connect to wifi? This happened once before and I just had to power cycle it and ensure I was connecting to 2.4g and not 5g.

This solution is no longer working. Anyone know how I can fix it?

Things I’ve tried:

Power off, delete connection and reconnect to 2.4g

Update board/firmware

Disconnect modem, router and turn off board

Do you use the smartphone ChessUp app?

Is there anything interfering with your 2.4GHz connection between your modem/router and your board? Is it possible that your 2.4GHz signal isn’t working properly on your network? Is the IP address your board is using blocked in your modem/router’s DDNS server?

What you can try: unplug your modem/router for at least 10 minutes and then restart everything. If you can manage your own network, go into the configuration and check if any IP addresses are blocked, possibly the IP address of your board.

Yeah, I’ve got the chessup app.

The network is fine since other devices can connect to the 2.4g and 5g networks.

I’ll test powering everything off for 10 mins and I’ll check for blocked addresses; I’ll post results.

So I powered everything off for 15min and retried but to no avail.

I checked for any blocked addresses and there are none.

I’ll probably shoot a message to support just to start the process, but I’ll check back here in case there’s new things to try.

Also thanks for trying guys!

Ok. Thx for trying. The only thing left I can think off is to reset the board. Inside the settings menu on the board you can factory reset.

Like you said contact costumer support info@bryghtlabs.com. They are awsome.

I did the factory reset and it wouldn’t connect to 2.4g afterwards. But it did connect to 5g after the factory reset!

So for anyone who finds themselves in my position

TL/DR SOLUTION: Factory reset (Reset All) in the settings and reconnect to 5g.

This was on the Chessup2 board

P.S. Thanks Criptix

ChessUp 2 cannot connect to 5GHz - so a factory reset would not allow it to do that either.

This sounds like a router setting issue - that will randomly work and randomly not.

The best practice is to make sure the router will dedicated connect 2.4 GHz devices. This is settable in the router.

What is the model of the router?

Hi, it’s an ASUS AX5400 router.

There is also a modem/router in this network: TAIPAN AC3200 Ultra

I’ll try check the settings

Ai (like google gemini or chat gpt) can likely walk you through steps.

You want to find a way to set the router to create a dedicated 2.4 GHz only WiFi network - and name it something like “myWiFi2GHz” - then connect the ChessUp 2 to that.

These high end routers are awesome for streaming hidef video - and the 5GHz band is great for that with higher bandwidth. The issue can be that they will release with early firmware and not have sorted out full support for “legacy” WiFi on 2.4 GHz. You can work around it by creating a redundant WiFi network on 2.4 GHz with the same router.

2.4 GHz has better range - and ChessUp uses so little bandwidth - ChessUp is dedicated 2.4 GHz.

If you cannot resolve it, please let us know.

I’ll give it a go so it’s permanently fixed.

Thanks for the assistance, I appreciate it!
