Issues with 2 player game

Hi ChessUp,

So I played a couple of games with 2 players (my kids age 4&5). Im Loving the colors for good and bad moves but sometimes even leaving a mate on the board is a green square.

Look:

Thats super strange right? Rook to f8 is mate if i play that pawn move. I have the latest update and wifi connected as I recalled that the engine should be better than.

Regards

Another strange behaviour I noticed.

Touching the White king would light up my black rook?

I filmed it for you but I’m not allowed to upload that file type from iPhone. screenshot of that movie

Interesting - you King has no square to move to. It’s ‘almost’ like you are being told you can’t go to the d file because the rook controls it.

We will check out the positions and try to find and fix the bug - thanks for reporting.

for me it felt more like castling got mixed up to be honest.

Hi Jeff,

thanks for replying. It wasn’t only this position. It was the full game, a generic problem. Computer told the kids it was OK to sac the queen all the time instead of just going to a safe square. The mate in 1 was just the final move where I thought, ok Lets report :joy:

There are times when a losing mate is inevitable and best move is actually to throw away pieces to delay the mate. That situation can seem weird even though it is technically correct.

It is also possible the assistance was wrong due to some bug on that particular game, but without the game log it is tough to say.

If you capture it again - please share with us through our bug report form here:

@Mosselmaniac Can you sync the board to your phone with the ChessUp app? Then you can export the pgn and send it to us. I can’t recreate this issue with the setup in Board Editor so I would like to play through the game to see if there is some other bug causing this.

@Mosselmaniac If you touch the king that can’t move because of some other piece, the king will blink and one of the other pieces preventing the kings movement will blink. This is expected behavior. It’s intended to show why the king can’t move.

Justin’s answer is correct - I did not notice that about the position. King has no moves and it highlights one of the pieces that prevents it from moving. Usually this is for pinned pieces, but when it is the king itself it can be a bit puzzling at first.
