Chess.com refuses to accept my account credentials when trying to re-authorize the board! I can still access my account and play chess from my iPhone! I can also access the account and play chess on my MacBook Pro. It’s like they are blocking the IP from the ChessUp 2 board! I tried reinstalling the ChessUp app but no joy. Is there a way to do a “clean install” of the Chessup app on the iPhone AND master reset the board? The main reason I got the Chessup 2 is the easy connect to my Chess.com account. It worked great for a month, now it’s broken! Please help!
I don’t think they are doing any IP filtering. They do limit connections to their site. So if you do sign in from a browser or app, you might have to back out of CDC on the board and try again. If that doesn’t work, please reach out to us at info@bryghtlabs.com and we can work directly with you
According to multiple sources, a chessup board can be reset by performing a calibration. Anyone know if this is true? Thank you.
You can go on the board to settings and there you have the option to reset the board.
This is almost always an expired credential. It is solved by logging out on the board and re-logging in.
I’ll share the process in a second post.
Hello Jeff,
I’m pretty sure I tried this already but I will give it a go just to make sure. It looks like Chess.com is blocking my IP address from my router so that will explain why this probably won’t work. I have a new Chess.com account that I can currently access that has never been associated with the Chessup2 board. I could try accessing that one after a reset.
Why can’t I simply do a clean install of the Chessup app on my iPhone and reset the board? It would be like none of this ever happened. I can assure you I did not cheat!!! Chess.com goes way overboard on this cheating thing and yet I play folks all the time that I KNOW are cheating. I don’t need any fancy algorithms or overcooked lines of code to see this! It is really obvious when a 700 player suddenly starts making moves like Bobby Fisher!!
I so regret paying good money for this product … and even more so because I purchased one for my son on Father’s Day as well!!!
I’m feeling a MAJOR COMPLAINT against your company may be on the horizon. I am very upset about all this!!!
Regretfully,
Jim Pomanto
PS - I don’t hesitate to put my real name out there because I DON’T CHEAT!!!
Jim I think this is just a simple technical issue. We offer great support and can help resolve this. But you are not going to get far with threatening us or insulting our company.
We do not block accounts and there is certainly nothing permanently broken. I don’t see anywhere that this is related to an account closure at all. No one is saying this is related to cheating. The login expires because the platform does not want a login to persist forever. It is just an account security measure - and unrelated to game play / cheating. It happens to all accounts if not logged in for a while.
It is easy to set up a fresh account or a new account on any board.
The steps to set up any account are the same as I shared in the video.
- Log out from the board
- Set up new login with the ChessUp app connected to the board.
However - there are lots of other things we would want to check - like is the board connected to WiFi. Is the board perhaps faulty in another way.
Again - we can walk through support including a phone call. I cannot provide much help if the posts are just threats to us. But I would be happy to walk through troubleshooting steps otherwise. It is probably best to get on a call so we can step through several items in a row.
I will send an email to coordinate a call from customer support.
I sent you a number to contact me as you requested, thanks.
Hi if your route is blocked by chess.com, can you try setting up a hotspot on your phone (2.4ghz only) and try that?
Yes, that is basically what I ended up doing and it worked! I spoke with Veronica and gave her the entire sorted tale. She was sincerely sorry I had to go through all that. I can say for sure that you guys have AWESOME SUPPORT!! I am very happy again!

For your router problem. The providers work with dynamic DHCP IP releases. So if you turn of your connection from your provider for at least 10 min (turn router off) and then reboot your router will have a new ip. It’s the providers ip that end up on servers. Just something to try.
A final word on this issue from the OP.
First, let me say that the Chessup folks were awesome and went above and beyond to make sure this was corrected. Also, I’d like to give kudos to the chess.com team for reaching out to me and making sure that everything was working correctly.
They acknowledged that in fact, I was not cheating and restored my account. They also lifted the ban on my public IP address so all my devices can now connect from home. Additionally they gave me one month premium subscription for free.
In short, a member of my family had in fact violated chess.com rules and that account has been suspended for one year. My thanks to everyone who helped get this situation corrected.
