Rating range selection

Chessup 2 currently has no way to adjust rating range when initiating a game.

While limiting, the workaround for chess.com games is to select the range on a computer and play a game; the next time you initiate a game on Chessup, it preserves the same rating range selection.

However, on Lichess, this doesn’t seem to work. Even after adjusting rating range on a computer and playing a game there, Chessup 2 seems to default to Lichess’s standard ±200 range. This is too large of a range for our purposes.

Please consider adding a rating selector on Chessup 2, for both chesscom and Lichess.

@Richard - would we need to request an API call to get the rating range preferences from lichess?

We prefer for this just to pull from the lichess account rather than be a setting on the board. That way it is consistent across your account (which we feel is the expectation).

Thanks for bringing it up

Khadim’s “WhitePawn” could do that but apparently the app is no longer updated and besides, I’m not sure the Chessup2 is supported in the latest version. You should eventually have to ask Khadim himself about that.

The issue may lie in the fact that Lichess and chesscom themselves work differently in this regard.

Chesscom remembers your range preference when you select one of the main time control settings.

Lichess requires you to select a custom game to do so. Choosing one of the preset time controls seems to default to ±200.

lichess has only a fraction of the number of players on line at a given moment as chess.com does…probably don’t want people waiting forever. Not good though.

I couldn’t find a user-setting for this in my Lichess account that would save like that. If the browser-one is persisted I think it’s only in that browser instance.

I skimmed the MatchMaking Lichess system, and it looks like specifying the rating-range is purely a filter on top of the regular matching logic(rating differences, considers wait-time, block-lists, provisional-status, and a few other things). So there’s not really a default rating-range either.

Hi PSL, good to hear from you again. Can I ask how you’d use it?

There might be something we could with the board to support your use-case better.

We wouldn’t touch it very often. But the default range is too wide. On a computer I’d choose custom game and set a narrower range for a 15 or 30 min game. I’d like to be able to do the same on the board, selecting a custom game and setting my rating parameters.
