I purchased the board at Christmas and have recently noticed that there are a couple of pieces that only “register” (i.e. light up the board) when picked up but not when touching them as the other pieces do. Is this expected behavior or faulty pieces?

Are you pressing them firmly enough on the board? Both my knights were doing this but it turns out I just needed to use a bit more pressure.
There is no need to press the pieces. Just play like on a ‘normal’ board. If there is a problem with playing like that reach out to costumer support info@bryghtlabs.com.
