Chessup2 connection issues

I have been using Chessup2 for a few weeks, and I’ve been really enjoying it. However in the last few days I have been having repeated connection issues with Chess.com. It is affecting over 50% of my games, but I cannot work out a pattern.

I am able to start a game on chess.com through board, however the clock for my opponent never starts and then I get an error message about the game being terminated and that I should continue on another device. If I open the chesscom app on my iPad I can see the game has started and the clocks are running. So it seems like the board initiates the game, but then the connection fails.

For a while it seemed to be okay for the first game I played, but then affect the second or third game. So I started to restart the board in between games, and that seemed to work for a while. However today I turned on the board, connected to chesscom, started a game and then it crashed straight away.

I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting my chesscom account on the chessup app, and it hasn’t had any effect.

Also, I often have issues with finding a game at all I try to start one and I just get a screen saying ‘starting soon’ I leave this for several minutes and nothing happens but I can connect and find a game instantly on my iPad

Can anyone help with this? Is there something I can try to fix it? Thank you.

We will take a look first thing Monday. It definitely should start every game ok - so we will get the issue fixed for you.

Thank you, I appreciate the response. Let me know if you need any info from me.

That sounds a lot like the issue I am having. I reported it ~2 weeks ago here: Takes much longer to start game on Chess.com - #68 by Caelarius

I had the same issue today. Around 12:55 UTC I booted the board and tried to get a match. I cancelled after 2 minutes. Then around 13:03 UTC I tried again. I did not get a match, cancelled after 2 minutes again. Then, on the board, I logged out of my chess.com account and logged in again through the app. I then closed the app, and started a match again on the board. This time I got a match, but now I got a “connection closed” message after the first move. I then played the match on my tablet.The match ID is: Chess: Caelarius vs checkfate06 - Chess.com

Then later on the day I booted my board again and started a new match. This time without any problems, fully played it on the board.

This problem has been coming and going for me the last 2 to 3 weeks. At certain times the board works just fine. I get a match within seconds, and am able to play it on the board. At other times it takes much longer to get a match, but I still get it. And at times I get no match and have to cancel and try again later. Or I get a match, but the connection gets closed after move one. Just like @JoshJG I don’t see much of a pattern as to when a problem occurs or not.

Just to add to this thread, I’m getting the same issue and I’m on the verge of returning my board.

I’ve lost so many games where it has said connection failed (continue on another device) and I haven’t had another device near me to continue to the game.

Previously I never got the message, now I get the message, but this shouldn’t ever be happening. I legit won’t play any more on the board unless my mobile device is near by.

It’s happening at least once a play session for me and it’s ruining my enjoyment of the board.

There was an issue on the backend in a recent API release - getting fixed ASAP.

Thank you.

This problem remains unresolved. I still intermittently cannot get a game on chess.com, usually turning off and on resolves that. Today I had the “This connection was closed please use another device” error again. In my experience that error is always after I make the first move for white.

Looking into logs for your account and games now. I assume you are chess.com user dllblue - correct?

We will roll out some more updates this week.

@dllblue
I’m really sorry you’re still experiencing this — I know how frustrating it can be, and we’re actively working to get these issues fully resolved.

A quick question regarding your comment “I still intermittently cannot get a game on chess.com:

Have you noticed this happening within the last 24 hours?

Also, could you please share your chess.com username again? I apologize if I missed it earlier, but having it here will help me trace what may have happened during your most recent game attempts.

Thank you for your patience — we’re on it.

Yes I’m dllblue on chess.com. Last time I couldnt get a game, and then after restarting had the connection closed message, was around 4pm 10 December Perth West Australia time. That was after installing the most recent 4.3.2 update.

Thanks

Today 16:36 Perth WA, “This connection was closed” error after 1. e4, but the game did not appear on chess.com on my ipad so I was unable to continue. I was able to start a new game on the ipad which continued to completion.

Be aware if you log into chess.com on multiple devices (board and iPad) - chess.com can close one of the connection. It is weird because sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Chess.com runs games on two different services - and it works with one service but not the other.

We do not recommend dual devices logged into same game. Best to just use the ChessUp 2.

Just in case that is what is happening?

@dllblue
Thanks for replying. That information helps a lot.
I have another question. Are these games CDC Bot games or strictly CDC Random games? (CDC: ChessDotCom)

Strictly random games

Ok thank you!
