Download error loop

Hello, recently received the chessup2 and have been absolutely in love with it. I have had very minimal issues with it until today when I started seeing frequent “Reconnecting” messages. It seemed to reconnect fine but it was happening quite frequently. I tried to reset the board but upon booting it back up, selecting a language and connecting to wifi, I receive a “Download Error” with a retry option after the update. Selecting retry does attempt to try again but constantly fails with the download error. The app no longer shows board settings, even though it is showing connected. It seems to disconnect and reconnect from Bluetooth constantly. The board is currently unusable :frowning: Let me know if there is any action to take on this.

You can force a firmware update from the app:

Also - are you on different WiFi this time? It requires 2.4 GHz WiFi and there is a loop it will get stuck in with 5 GHz.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the quick response. I was able to get over this hurdle by updating the firmware from the app but there was some confusion because sometimes the board settings in the app is hidden during the set up flow. I did get an error after force updating but it seems I am on the latest version and it is working again. I am on the same wifi as before and it has 2.4 or 5 but it looks like the chessup is using the 2.4 frequency. I am still seeing frequent reconnecting messages but I know there are already some other threads on this and a fix is underway

Glad it got out of the loop.

There should not be frequent reconnecting issues. They happen, yes, but what you are describing seems like something new. I get reconnecting like once every several games. How often are you seeing that?

I will ask the engineers to look on Monday.

Hey Jeff, it is happening quite frequently. I just finish a 2 player match with my wife and I dismissed that message 20+ times in 30 minutes.

Wow - yeah something is unique about that board or that WiFi.

Let me bring the firmware engineer in.

We will replace if faulty, but this is one of those situations, where if we can fix it for you, it probably fixes it for everyone

Thanks Jeff ~ I appreciate the quick response times. The product is amazing and being in the software industry, I totally understand working through the bugs :bug:. Let me know how I can help or if there is any tests you need me to run.

I think we might have an issue with dual band WiFi with common SSID

I think our WiFi chip is grabbing the 5GHz band and it doesn’t even support 5GHz.

If you turn the router to 2.4 only, do the messages go away?

(or set the bands to different SSIDs)

Jeff, I can see the board is on 2.4GHz. I was able to disable 5 GHz and did not see a single reconnecting message today. I toggled it back on to see if I could get it to happen again and still have not seen any reconnects like I did last night. Could have been a blip with my wifi or something
