Incorrect piece placement vrs bots not recognized

I was watching my son play a match against a ChessUp bot and noticed that he could decide to move the bots piece to any legal square and the board wouldn’t correct him. For instance, he could place a rook on any unobstructed file square and essentially cheat without being forced to correct the position like what happens when playing on chess.com

That is not actually true; the board will flash the tile under the incorrectly placed piece and the square that it should be on before allowing further play. If your son is experiencing different behavior it is likely a bug.

Yeah when using the bots you can make moves for him. But it’s just a bot for practice. It’s probably there so you can play against a specific variation.

I think it’s a big. I took video of it. No flashing. When I play on chess.com, I definitely get flashing purple squares for incorrect piece placement.

Oh, really? That’s an interesting feature that I did not know about. In that case, I guess it’s still not a bug. Thanks for telling me!

I’ve observed this with my grandson too.

It is on purpose - works with our built in Ai, but not Chess.com bots.

Thanks Jeff. It would be nice to be able to turn this feature off. The primary reason I bought the board was for my son to learn organically, starting at level 1 and working his way up. I totally understand being able to modify moves for variations for mature players, but having the ability to control this from a parental perspective would be awesome.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback - we will look into that as an option.

On the other hand, your child can learn from his or her own curiosity. Exploring can be a great learning tool and moving pieces because you think the bot made a mistake or even because you want to force a mistake so you can take advantage of it won’t hurt the student.
