My board more often than not won’t find a game

Anytime I pick up my board it will let me play one or two games and then will infinitely load and not find a game through Chess.com. I’ve reset my settings and logged out and back into the website. I have fiber at home, but it doesn’t seem to matter whether I’m using my home Internet or my hotspot while I’m out and about.

Sort of frustrating. It works great for over the table games, but it’s frustrating. I can’t play online because that’s the main reason I got the board. It takes me 5 to 10 minutes to get the board to finally get an online game through a series of resetting the settings and logging back in. And then sometimes it will disconnect after the first move.

Try Lichess. I use that and have no connection problems.

lichess has a LOT less players. You might also make sure your ‘elo play parameters’ are set wide enough.

Same, consistently can’t connect. Even now, I’ve been waiting several minutes on chesscom. I just want to know if others have this same issue or if I’m doing something wrong? I can connect to a game easily on the website.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences — based on this thread it seems like multiple people are having the same issue specifically on Chess.com:

• connects sometimes for the first 1–2 games
• then infinite loading / takes several minutes to match
• sometimes disconnects after the first move
• Lichess works fine
• Web browser / internet connection works fine

So this probably isn’t user error or home network configuration.

To help the devs narrow it down, would you be willing to share:
• Phone model
• App version (Profile → Board Updates → App Version)
• Whether games fail only on Chess.com or also on Lichess
• Approx. time the issue happened (so they can check the logs)

I’ll keep everything collected here in one post so the team has it in a clean format.

This issue matters to a lot of players who bought the board mainly for online play, so getting this stable will make a huge difference for everyone.

We are taking a look at this now. Please share chess.com account names if you are having an issue with game seeking.

Personally it only works for me . I start the board, see the Wifi logo ( with the dot) , then go to chess.com , then wait for the pawn to show up. If it does not show up, restart and retry. If it shoes up, immedialty search for new games. After that it normally works flawlessly for any other game.

Lichess API seems way more stable.

I haven’t been able to get this info yet, but I will try soon when I have the time if I continue to have the problem.

My username is PatientDisciple. Chess.com is the only way I want to use the board. I don’t want to have to use Lichess.

@oridota @Richard - can you check out logs for PatientDisciple username and troubleshoot - thanks.

Hello I received my chessup2 board today and was able to play one game, but now experiencing the same issues as above. Screen is stuck on “Starting soon…”.

chess.com name is dragginnnn, last tried now about 10pm est.

restarting the board allows me to play 1 game and then the same issue happens. iPhone 16pro, iOS 26.2.

I’m also having this issue. I bought the board mainly for online play. Chess.com username is Mikestrel. The green pawn character doesn’t show up in the way that the lichess horse does at the top. Also the green connected dot doesn’t show up on the sign in chess.com tab. I’ve already tried signing out and back in.

Also when I started a gain through the app on lichess it didn’t transfer to the board

Hi just for info here you can see how to relogin on chess.com.

Hi,

It still doesn’t log in. It gets stuck on the transmitting screen, and when I click the log in button on the app it takes me to the chess.com site and doesn’t log in on the board.

When you are (inside the ChessUp app) on the web page to login to chess.com do you get the message to approve the board to access your account? And if you do does the approval window go away?

If you keep having problems the best way is to contact costumer support info@bryghtlabs.com. They are great and will do everything they can to help you out.

So it seems that the problem is whether or not the little Chesscom pawn shows in the top right corner of the screen. If it doesn’t show, all I need to do is to return to the main screen of the board and wait for it to appear. After the pawn eventually appears the game searching works as intended. I assume this has something to do with the board’s connection to the Chesscom account/servers? Strange that it has to show this pawn before going into the Chesscom menu.

The board sets up the chess.com connection in preparation (as that is the most used feature).

If a game seek is ever exited without concluding it can get into a runaway loop where it is continually in conflict with previous launch still seeking and user trying a new session. People who get frustrated often launch and cancel repeatedly and exacerbate the issue.

We are working on some ways to notify or guard against it. We understand it is not clear what is happening.

In using the board, if ever stuck, just take a minute on the home screen and it will recover.

If you wait for a green pawn - pretty good indicator it will go smooth each time.
