I have the exact same issue of missing games. This is seriously annoying. I don’t understand how such a simple feature of importing games could have such a bug.
First, some time ago I imported 2 games at once. The app said that “2 games have been imported”. However, later only one of them showed up in the History tab. The other one is still missing. So I have game 11, game 12 and game 14. There’s no game 13.
Which is a pity because that game turned out to be quite important and I really wanted to analyze the pgn.
Since then I have only been importing one game at a time and it’s been working until today. When I tried it, the app now showed that “0 games have been imported”. When I tried again, it said “There are no games to import”. And again no new games in the History tab.
The game has definitely finished, it showed “draw” on the screen with the animation and everything. After that I connected my phone to import the games.
I use iOS. Does the Android app have the same bug? When can we expect it to be fixed? I think it’s a critical bug that needs to be fixed ASAP. For me it’s the biggest reason I got an e-board - to have all the moves electronically stored without having to write them down.
Hi @alex3
What kind of game was this last game that didn’t sync? What an AI game, chesscom, player v player? Was this a long game? We have a bug fix that we are releasing that solves an issue for saving really long games.
Thanks for the fast response. It was an AI game against the internal bot, not on chesscom. I only used wifi and didn’t connect the phone before the game was over. The game didn’t last too long, up to an hour or so.
Also I forgot to mention that I had to pause the game for about 40 min. So I saved it using the screen and turned off the board. After getting back I tapped “restore the game” on the board, and all the squares where the pieces should be started blinking repeatedly, even though the pieces were already in their correct squares. It was my turn, so I tried moving some pieces but nothing could stop the blinking. So I saved the game again, restored it straight away without turning off the board, and the blinking has stopped. After that I proceeded playing and all was fine until the game was over and I tried to import it.
I think this could actually be the root of the bug, it might have something to do with this blinking issue and saving/restoring the game. I encountered once before this blinking that couldn’t be stopped after restoring the game, and did the same steps to make it stop, but don’t remember if it was game 13 when it happened.
@alex3 if you could DM me your ChessUp email address I can look and see if the game was saved on the server side, but the app can’t determine it as valid.
Hi @alex3,
This is good information. Currently, we can’t save games to the history that have been paused and resumed. This is the reason your game doesn’t show up. Very sorry about this. We are rearchitecting our game storage as Jeff mentioned above. Once this is complete this will not be an issue.
The blinking issue you saw is certainly a bug. Thanks for letting us know. We will look in this.
Hi Justin
thanks for response.
When can we expect this fix? In the next firmware? Can you tell me when it will be? My games (with the internal ChessUp AI) haven’t imported since March, and I don’t know what to do. I’ve already uninstalled and reinstalled the ChessUp app, but it didn’t help. Will deleting my account and creating a new one change anything? I’m also on iOS 17.7.2.
Hi @wilis
Sorry for the delayed response. I missed your reply. None of you games with the AI get saved to the app? I assume these aren’t games you paused and restarted right? Try going to settings in the app. Make sure you are connected to the board. You should see an option called “Board Games”. Click on that and make sure the toggle for “Auto Import Board Games” is switched on. There is also a button to “Load Board Games”. That will also import the games. Give that a try
and let us know if that doesn’t work.
Thanks for reply.
My game import hasn’t been working since March. I’ve tried the app settings and have auto game import enabled, but it still doesn’t work. These are regular games, not interrupted or saved. It simply plays with the internal AI, but they don’t import, despite the message that your board now has 54 new games for import. This number is growing as I play new games, but they don’t import. Only the message with the new number of games to import appears. Finally, it says that 21 new games have been imported, but they aren’t there. The last one is from March 13th.
I’m eagerly awaiting the push sync solution that Jeff mentioned. If a solution isn’t provided, I’ll unfortunately have to purchase an AI board from a different brand and switch over. For me, the best way to learn is through instant review, and without that functionality, this board loses much of its value.
This issue should be a top priority for ChessUp, even warranting a hotfix in the current version.
Note: Strangely, sometimes matches sync again and I can review them, but then after a moment, they’re gone and the bug reappears.
