White King Issue on ChessUp 2 - Fix pushing soon

We have just released an improvement to the king issue (0.5.1). Can you please try it with your board and white king? We have also shipped you a new king. But we would like you to test the new firmware to see if it improves your experience.

I’m curious though: since you needed to lower the threshold for detection for the piece, isn’t it possible now that a fully functional white king with a stronger signal might cause false positives?

For example, it might be detected as being on the square even though it’s held at a greater distance above the square than other pieces?

We actually did more than just adjust the threshold. The signal is now stronger. So there shouldn’t be any false positives. Thanks for testing it out.

Hello there.
I just got my chessup 2 today and stumbled upon this thread since my white king is very unreliable. Sometimes it gets recognized but most of the time it doesnt.

It happens on every square (tried out board editor)

I made a firmware update of the board and am currently on version 1.0.0

Poking a hole in the felt didnt help either. As i didnt feel any bubbles in the first place.

Anything else i can do?

We have a fix pushing with better white king recognition - sorry for the trouble.

This is an issue from ChessUp 1, batch 1 in 2022. This is not valid for ChessUp 2 pieces.

We cannot fully scrub the internet of the advice, but just noting it here. ChessUp 2 pieces do not benefit from poking a hole.

This was an issue in ChessUp 1 with trapped air and the felt would form a bulge at high elevations. It was in essence piercing a balloon to fix.

Just wanted to report that I am having similar issues with the white king. I am finding that the piece will eventually register if I move it around on the square enough, however, during a game this can cost me significant time when trying to move the king.

Just wanted to add my symptoms to the list and hopefully a fix is pushed soon. Definitely seems like a weak signal issue as if the king is positioned differently within the square it eventually works.

There is a white king tuning fix coming, but to be sure we are replacing the slightly out of tune ones. I will reach out to you by email

I received my board today but I am also having an issue with my white king. It will register when closer to a corner within a square but not when centered in a square. All of the other pieces seem to be working as they are supposed to. My order number is 19290.

Didn’t see it listed in the firmware update notes for 1.2.0, so I wanted to ask here instead. The white king recognition is not very good, and the piece needs to be placed just so to get the board to recognize it. Is improvement of the white king recognition planned for release soon?

If your particular king is not perfect at this release we have to replace it.

Hi Jeff, I received my board a week ago, and I’ve noticed a similar issue. When my white king is checked on the back rank and moved to B1 (or B1 → A1), the board doesn’t seem to detect the piece (I’ve attached a video but have a few). I noticed it works if the king moves to the second rank (e.g., 2B), and the black king seems to work fine.

The video expire in 2 days, so let me know if you want me to upload it again.

Hi, just got my board today an I have same issues with white king. Board usually does not detect it even in a starting position. No issues with other pieces.

I see we have a new one ordered - should ship tomorrow. Sorry for the faulty piece.

Also - somehow you were charged shipping on that and I just refunded it. Faulty piece replacement cost is on us.
