Chess.com online game with no clock

This must be something unique and new - developers will likely need to email with you and resolve.

Are you perhaps logged in anywhere else at the same time?

Its still not working. I tried rapid and blitz, neither will start a game. It won’t load the bots either.

As for logged into multiple places, I haven’t logged into chess.com on any new devices, I also don’t have it pulled up on my phone or computer when trying to play on the board.

The only thing that has changed recently is that I upgraded my account from a Gold member back up to a Diamond membership. Not sure why that would make a difference, but its the only thing I can think of that has changed.

I cleared the cache and data in the chessup app and that didn’t fix it either

Ok - I will have the dev team investigate on Monday.

We have a dashboard to monitor connected boards and game success- and it seems to be an issue specific to just your board/account. Everyone else running smooth. So we will need to dig into this one to figure it out.

@Jeff I finally got a game to work. I decided to try and play a bot on chess.com using my phone to start the game. After that game was over, I did a board reset again. After getting everything setup again, I was able to see the bots and I was able to play a 5 min game. Hopefully tonight I’ll have some more time to try a 15/10. The 5 min games are just way too fast for me, especially wasting time moving the opponents pieces lol

Suggestion - try a delay. Say, 5/2.
I pretty much only ever play 3/0 online…but that’s going to 3/2 or some other delay once I get my unit…hope to get the email to verify our mailing address in a day or two…

@Cornfed 5/2 isn’t an option on the board currently. I mainly play 15/10, but since I was short on time I just loaded up a 5 min game as a test.

Maybe 5/3? All I’m saying is a delay is needed, at least for 5 min and under.

@Cornfed I get what your saying and I understand the difference. Currently for the options for Blitz are 3, 3/2, and 5 min. I have a hard enough time even playing 3/2 online. Having to move the opponents pieces eat up even more of my time. Its something I hope to get better at, I just can’t think fast enough yet, that’s why I like the longer time controls.

Yeah even 3+2 is fast for a smart board. It is doable, but you will drop rating to do it.

I have gotten in the habit of 10+0 minute games. I really wish Chess.com had 10+5 which would be perfect for smart boards.

@Jeff when you click on more time controls on chess.com it has 10/5. Will the board eventually be able to also access these extra time controls?

Yeah we can add that - that is really the perfect format.

We can do any format, including custom, just have to set the user interface up to do it.

90% of my games on both my accounts have been Unrated over the past year so I don’t mind losing too much…and my settings are to only play anyone -25pts below me or anyone higher…be it rated or not.
But…there is 5/2 and 5/5…which should be pretty doable for this board…those are options for the board or not?

These are the possibilities for the board atm. I play 15/10. The rest is too fast for me…

It looks like the first line of blitz and rapid is adopted from the times on chess.com like seen on the picture of PBK_Studio.

Would definitely want to have access to at least the expanded selection of time controls, as well as the ability to choose the rating range.

Currently, it seems the rating range is whatever you last chose on the website, with no way to adjust this without actually starting an online game on a computer. (So if your last game wasn’t using the rating range you want to use now, then you simply cannot play your next game with the desired rating range on the Chessup–you’d have to play a game on another device.)

Also, I’d really appreciate if the board could remember the last time control and (and rated/unrated option) you selected and leave those as the default, since most people are using the same game settings most of the time.

@psl - Absolutely, that’s a must. 1. All the delay options chess.com currently offers given that we make the opponents moves 2. Rating range and saving ones ā€˜default’ for the very reason you indicate.

Yeah most of these things are happening in coming updates (like remember preference, more formats, etc)

Most people do not use the rating range settings and unrated play (we have them when using the app) - so that is not a top priority release. However, you can still use ChessUp 2 with the app for some of these more unusual game set ups.

ā€œMost peopleā€? How do you know that?

I say that because I certainly do and would not want to waste time playing someone 600 or 800 or more lower than me in either RATED or UNRATED - especially for longer time controls.

It may not be ā€˜priority’, but my board is not going to get much use at all until it is.

I personally will never use an ap for play, that is NOT why I got ChessUp 2 among all the options available.

We collect data on what is popular in the app.

We do support unrated and rating range.

Rating range is only applicable in unrated play (*I think). So these two features run together.

We had it in the app that you could set you rating range and then it remembered that. I cannot remember what was applicable to Lichess and what was to Chess.com.

All I was saying with the fact that it is not common - is that we will support it but it might be in line behind some things to do with rated play.

Although, this might be something that is really easy to set up, sometimes those features can sneak in an update.

So we have it on our radar. It will be in a future release, just not sure exactly which release.

And I understand about wanted to play without the app in the way - we will build all those functions in.

They might be referring to this @Jeff which is possible to control with rated play, though I suspect less common since it’s below the fold, where you have to hit ā€œcustomā€ to expose these options:
